1Open and picturesque, the first typically plays with the prevailing breeze. A classic starting hole, it presents only one fairway bunker for guidance off the tee, but subtleties ofA good drive is required on this hole, with trees to the right and out of bounds left. Even after finding the fairway, two very strategic bunkers can still ruin your score. Par is 2Short at less than 300 yards, as well as downhill, the second might be considered a certain opportunity for birdie - or better - for long and accurate hitters. The green slopes harThis is a great risk/reward hole that will give the longest hitters a go at the green off the tee. If you choose to try and hit this downhill 290 yard par-4 it’s all carry. You m3No tricks on the par-3 third; it’s all in front of the golfer. A deep bunker left compounds the difficulty of hole locations on that side, and the green rolls away on all flanks This par-3 will award a good tee sheet and punish a poorly placed miss. If the pin is on the left, a creek that runs parallel with the hole comes into play. A deep bunker will catc4A straightforward par-4, the fourth relies largely on a two-tier green and both sand and grass bunkering for protection. Landing the approach on the wrong level can bring a score oA drive down the left side of the fairway is a fantastic start! This leaves the fairway bunker and O-B right in your rearview mirror. An approach shot on the correct level of the g5A demanding drive sets the tone for the difficult fifth hole. Mature trees protect the corner of a subtle dogleg just at the point where the fairway crowns, leaving a slightly downA big drive down the left side of the fairway is key for the longest par-4 on the East Course. If you leak the drive to the right you will have to be creative with your second shot6Short on yardage but long on opportunity, the par-5 sixth brings realistic chances for eagle to the middle of a round on the East. The green is relatively flat, but well bunkered aA pretty benign par-5. You must protect from going too far left into the water. If you push it right you may still have a chance to reach the green in two. Any drive in the fairway7Playing long and uphill, this par-3 presents more problems than its 13 handicap ranking indicates. It’s often into the prevailing breeze, has an extreme slope off the left side, Our 7th on the East Course is a tough par-3. Ignore the creek left, bunkers to both right and left, the OB right, and then, no worries! This is one of my favorite green complexes o8The eighth twists right and uphill to a plateau green that’s seen only as a ridge from the fairway. Landing the approach short can return the ball to the fairway off a false fronThis is one of the tougher par-4’s on the East Course. Do not try to cut the corner from any tee box. The smart play is a drive up the left side of the fairway. Take the extra cl9Like several other holes on the East, the ninth features a strongly two-tiered green. Relatively short and largely in view, the closing hole of the front side tends to balance birdThe home hole on the front nine is a straightforward par-4, but don’t let it lull you.
