1The first at Abergele is a short hole to start with and one the longer hitters may fancy taking on, however this is a typical risk and reward shot.The percentage play is to play to the widest part of the fairway just short of the fairway bunker, leaving a simple enough approach to the green. Remember this second shot does pla2A short Par 3 with an unusual shaped green sloping from left to right, a hole you want to make sure you find the green, if you don’t, make sure you avoid missing on the short sid3The first of the Par 5’s, this scenic dogleg demands your tee shot to favour the right side of the fairway to open up the your view for your second shot.Decisions are important from here; the further you hit your second shot, the narrower your landing area becomes.4Statistically the easiest hole on the course, at only 300 yards it is certainly reachable for the longer hitters. Surrounded by trees, this visually inviting hole asks the player tLaying up short of the bunkers is definitely the easier choice and will only leave a short shot for your second.5the second of the short holes and although a similar distance to the 2nd hole, it typically plays a club longer.Again, importance on finding the green here as saving par otherwise will prove difficult.6Arguably the hardest driving hole on the course, this sharp dogleg doesn’t leave a large hitting area to leave a clear shot to the green. Choosing the right club off the tee here7A simple enough drive into a large fairway, playing down the right side will open up the green for your second shot.Taking enough club for your second shot is key and missing the green to the bunkers on the left and right will usually result in a bogey or worse.8The longest hole on the course and another tough driving hole. The drive demands you to favour the left side of the fairway for your second shot but is made difficult by a large ovThe safe play is to the right, though this will make the following shots difficult. Once you reach the green it slopes heavily from back to front.9The halfway point of the round, a long par 4 where your tee shot is narrow and you must navigate your drive between a large mound to your left and fairway bunkers to your right.The second shot doesn’t present too many problems, though it is normally a long iron or even a wood to reach this green in two.10Visually an intimidating drive as a large tree sits in the centre with trees down the left and water on the right. The perfect line off the tee is the gap between the centre tree and the tress on the left. After your tee shot, you are left with a relatively long second shot to a flat green, but11A fairly simple drive which favours a drive down the right side of the fairway to open up the view of the green. Be warned, bunkers guard this line of the right side of the fairwayThe longer hitters might be tempted to take on the corner. As you approach the green it is guarded by 4 large bunkers which must be avoided. Remember your approach shot is uphill and the green has a false front so take one extra club than you initially think.12The most difficult hole on the course but with a stunning sea view, this hole plays straight and longThe importance here is hitting straight and avoiding the water hazard to the left side of the green.13A deceptively long par 3 with a raised green, like the short holes previous it’s vital to find the putting surface.
A missed green will leave you a very difficult up and down.14Devils Elbow is a great par 4 which doglegs from left to right, the key here is to find the fairway off the tee.If this is achieved you are left with a visually stunning approach shot to a green which sits under the castle situated on the hills in the background.15Only a short hole but don’t be fooled by the yardage. This tee shot favours the golfer who can draw the ball. Once the fairway is found your approach leaves you with another chalThis unusual shaped green leaves only small landing areas to keep the ball on the green, make sure you commit to your yardage and your decision.16A long par 4 which doglegs from right to left up the hill, this hole demands two good strikes if you are to reach in two.As this hole plays uphill, be sure to take extra club, a missed green long here leaves an easier chip than a green missed short.17A great par 3 and the penultimate hole. This long par 3 plays uphill so be sure to take plenty of extra club. There is a bank to the left side of the green which can be used to bouThe big mistake here is to miss the green to the right, two large bunkers await you and your chip shot plays blind to an elevated green.18With danger left and right, the key here is to find the fairway. The longer hitters can take the line down the left side of the fairway and carry their ball to the second plateau lThe real difficulty in this finishing hole is after the tee shot, every shot thereafter the ball is above your feet with no flat stance.
