1The first hole at Saint Andrew's bears the distinction of being one of the original MtHope course holes, designed and built by William Henry Tucker Sr. in 1897. A fairway wood is all you need to reach this fairway. However, the uphill approach requires an exactling shot and plays longer than the yardage indicates.2This short par 4 requires accuracy from tee to green.Long hitters should use an iron from the tee. Although this green is fairly flat, favor the right side for pin placements middle to back, avoiding the collection area just left of the green. Long is dead3This short par 3 plays slightly uphill to a well-protected green with a large bunker short and left of the putting surfaceLeft of the green is certain trouble while the right side offers an expanded landing area in playable rough. Be careful of this seemingly benign greenthe putting surface is contoured with a good deal of break from right-to-left as well as running very fast from back-to-front.4A drive must be hit right center or to the end ofthe fairway to avoid being blocked out by the tree overhanging the left corner of the doglegThis is particularly true with the pin left. Proper club selection is a must as this green is only 16 yards deep. Long usually means bogey.5Aim for the center of the green.Slightly long and right finds you in a lateral water hazard. This fairly flat green has three collection areas; front, back right, and back left. Gauge the wind before making your club selection.6Tee off through a shoot of willow trees to a very largefairway Factor carrying the water hazard on your approach to this two-tieredgreen. Narrow from front-to-back, this green requires a precise approach. Beware of the wind... gauge it before making your club selection..7This is a true 3-shot par 5, seldom reachable in twoDrive to the right side of the fairway to set up a second shot lay-up to the left side of the fairway.Lay-up as close as possible for a short iron into this well guarded green.8Guard against misdirection off the tee.The putting surface has a false front, a middle depression. and a back tier.Beware of the four greenside bunkers lurking right. The scratch player will make his share of bogeys.9This par 5 is virtually impossible to reach in two.A tee shot to the right side of the fairway offers a rare level lie. Carrying the road on your second shotsets up the best chance to hit this extremely difficult green on your approach. Take bogey and run.10A difficult Par 3 with a well protected green. The rock wall on the right serves to intimidate as does the extreme fall off to the left.Short right is a very acceptable shot.11Drive to the right center of the fairway.Out of bounds lurks very close to the right side of the hole. The approach shot into the green plays shorter than the yardage, but must be very precise. Don't be long!12A good drive down the left side give you the best chance to reach this green in twoA good second shot aimed at the green's right side will still run on if short. However, short left leaves you in the bunkers with s difficult up-and-down. Over the green long is death!13The safe play is to the left center of the green. Two large bunkers guard the center and right front of the green.Behind the green the ground rises shaply and then levels off. Go long and you won't have much of a second shot. Gauge the wind before making your club selection.14The trees on the right can block your second shotYour approach must carry two bunkers 35 yards short of the green. The green begins 10 yards beyondthe horizon line. This bowl-shaped green accepts most shots if they carry far enough.15Off the tee, the water on the left comes into play for a pulled or hooked tee shot.A ball driven into the right trees requires chipping out. A 220-yard drive left center affordsthe best opportunity for par. Club selection is critical to this shallow green.16Here you hit to an elevated green on perhaps the prettiest hole on the course.A water hazard lined with rocks runs down the left side and across the line of playwell short of the green. Going long and right is okay.17Tee off to a landing area guarded by trees left and a bunker rightMany players will carry the brook in two shots, leaving a pitch shotinto a green guarded by two deep bunkers. Hit your approach to the right level; putting from one level to another is difficult.18Drive to the right center of this generousfairway. Take one extra club on the approach to this elevated green. The best strategy here is to avoid the bunkers and play for the middle of the green. Guard against being too long to this extremely difficult green.
