Hole 1
Hole Name Braeval
From The Tee
From The Fairway After a straightforward drive to a wide fairway,
On The Green the green lies in a hollow which can gather a wayward pitch, but be sure to carry the rise at the front of the green.
Hole 2
Hole Name Sandhills
From The Tee
From The Fairway The steeply sloping fairway tends to take the drive down to the right hand side,
On The Green so aim as close as you dare to the semi-rough on the left. A long drive can carry the top of the hill and reach the flat ground beyond. For the approach shot, the hill on the left will help a shot in that direction, but a deep bunker lies to the right.
Hole 3
Hole Name Quarry
From The Tee
From The Fairway Any shot to the right on this narrow fairway is likely to finish in the rough.
On The Green Aim for the wall of the next tee which can be clearly seen. Favour the left with the approach to avoid the quarry, which gives the hole its name, on the right.
Hole 4
Hole Name Alma
From The Tee A signature hole, named after a famous Crimean battle –
From The Fairway
On The Green and wrongly approached, this hole can certainly be a battle ! Avoid the right, playing along the bottom of the hill to leave a firm pitch to the narrow green cut on the side of the slope.
Hole 5
Hole Name Monivrachie
From The Tee A long par 3, from which you can see the whole of the Upper Forth Valley,
From The Fairway
On The Green from Ben Lomond, all the way to Stirling Castle. A difficult green to hold, the best line is often close to the small hill on the left of the green.
Hole 6
Hole Name Ditches
From The Tee An interesting par 3 where clubbing is very dependent on the wind.
From The Fairway
On The Green The ditches which give the hole its name, lie short of the green, but beware of the overhit shot, as lots of trouble lies behind.
Hole 7
Hole Name Fairy Knowe
From The Tee Definitely a hole for the tactical golfer. A mid-iron to the bottom of the hill leaves a short but tricky pitch to
From The Fairway
On The Green the green which can be hard to hold, but a well-hit drive over the tall trees and out of bounds on the left can be rewarded with an eagle opportunity.
Hole 8
Hole Name Limecraig
From The Tee A tricky par 3, played between two large ash and oak trees.
From The Fairway
On The Green An accurate tee shot will leave a birdie putt on the large sloping green.
Hole 9
Hole Name ELizabeth's View
From The Tee An opportunity to open the shoulders for a tempting drive from a
From The Fairway high tee to the fairway below. The large tree on the left edge of the slight dog-leg is a good line for most,
On The Green and will leave a short approach to an undulating green. The flat ground can make distance difficult to judge correctly.
Hole 10
Hole Name Roderick
From The Tee An attractive short hole surrounded by trees, a stone dyke and out of bounds on the left, and the burn on the right.
From The Fairway
On The Green Look carefully for the pin position on the twin-level green, and avoid the bunker front right. This little hole has seen an end to many a promising score !
Hole 11
Hole Name Craigmore
From The Tee One of the longest holes on the course and often played into the prevailing wind.
From The Fairway A good straight drive is required. Definitely avoid the left hand side, but the fairway bottlenecks at about 230 yards from the tee, so care is required all round.
On The Green The approach, which must be carried all the way to the distant green, is played against the magnificent backdrop of the Queen Elizabeth forest, with Ben Lomond off to the left.
Hole 12
Hole Name White Rose
From The Tee Another par 3, played to a green cut into the side of the hill.
From The Fairway
On The Green The safe shot favours the right hand side. Think carefully before attacking a pin on the left of the green, as it is hard to recover from the bottom of the steep bank below the green.
Hole 13
Hole Name Dounans
From The Tee Another signature hole and one of the most attractive on the course.
From The Fairway
On The Green The differing colours of the trees in the forest behind the green make for a magnificent sight in most months of the year. The tee shot needs to carry all the way to the generous green.
Hole 14
Hole Name Alsheen
From The Tee The toughest hole on the course, not just in length, but because it rises significantly from tee to green.
From The Fairway
On The Green A tee shot as close as you dare to the rough on the left will be rewarded by a view of the distant green. The approach is tight, with out of bounds on the left, and heavy rough and trees to the right. A par here deserves a round of applause.
Hole 15
Hole Name Ladybank
From The Tee Not long, but one of the most difficult holes on the course.
From The Fairway
On The Green Avoid the right hand side down the whole length of the hole. A well positioned tee-shot is essential, best played down the left centre with a draw, to leave an approach down the long narrow green. Anything short or right will face a difficult recovery from the bunker on the slope below the green.
Hole 16
Hole Name Ben Lomond
From The Tee A short downhill par 4. The safe tee-shot is just inside the line of the big tree on the right,
From The Fairway
On The Green although a more aggressive shot to the left centre may have a chance of getting close to the green. Care is required with the approach as the ground slopes away to a bunker at the rear of the green.
Hole 17
Hole Name Coombie's Walk
From The Tee An old-fashioned blind hole, and a dog-leg as well. Aim the drive at the gap between the hill on the left and the trees on the right.
From The Fairway
On The Green For the blind approach, you may be able to take a line on the trees behind the green. Favouring the left will avoid the steep slope which carries away any shot hit short or right, but may catch the bunker which guards the front and left of the green.
Hole 18
Hole Name Home
From The Tee Downhill all the way, and a chance to open the shoulders again.
From The Fairway Aim between the two copses of trees to leave an approach to a well-guarded green which slopes away to the back. Alternatively, a long drive over the left-hand trees may leave an easier approach from the first fairway, but beware the presence of other players before trying this.
