Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee Off the tee you can’t reach the creek, but favoring the left side a little will give you a slightly better angle toward the second landing area. Play your second shot between the two big hardwoods-
From The Fairway
On The Green I couldn’t make it any plainer. When you wedge it at the green, be careful not to get too cute. The ball will spin back into the water if you’re short. I did that on purpose, and if you want to fight about it, I’ll meet you out back. Don’t be a dummy if the pin is close to the front slope. Just play for a sure par and hope you make a 15 footer. Notice there were no bunkers. With all the creeks and
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee If you place your tee ball as close to the creek as possible, every shot at the green is more open. From the bail-out-right position, you will be hitting it straight at the water over the green. From the left there are mounds behind the green and a cut of short grass, then some rough- no water. If you have the guts, you can hit your driver and have a sand wedge in. But a three wood or a knife isn’
From The Fairway
On The Green There is a bunker on the right front of the green with a lip on it that I call a “cape” (the official Scottish term). There is a pin positioning the back of the green that is really tough from the right side. Remember this form. You’ll see it again at 18.

From The Tee Study the angle of the creek to the tee shot. Drive the ball close to the creek, the green is much shorter and you will have support mounds to back you up. If you bail out left, you might have as many as two more clubs to the pin, and again you will be hitting it right at the river. Most of the birdies will come from tee shots close to the creek.
From The Fairway
On The Green Otherwise you will be playing defensively at the green. Notice that there is a roll across the putting surface. This roll has a name- Son of Spine. It tells you the pin is back- another club more than the forward pins. Even when you know your yardage from the charts, sometimes it’s hard to make your body do it. Consider putting over the roll because the back placement drains toward the creek.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s eagle time. Drive it close to the creek, because the angle to the green is better and much shorter.
From The Fairway
On The Green A crunched drive might mean as little as a four-iron at the green, but usually it’s a long iron or a three wood. The green is wide enough and very deep. It does have a few little roll-offs here and there and a grassy hollow on the right side that will make you think about a recovery toward the creek, but in general it is a good opportunity to make up a shot. Unfortunately, you can add some if you

From The Tee The first of the par threes continues with the water. This hole is simple. Hit it on the stick and make a two. Hit it in the pond and make a four or five. Hit it in the two bunkers left and back left and maybe make a four. Hit it on the safe front left and make a sure three. Take your choice. It’s about a six-iron. The putting surface is not complicated, but hit it straight!

Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway There is one directional bunker in the middle of the fairway, and if you are Daly-long, you might want to hit something less than a driver.
On The Green I don’t ask you to favor one side or the other here because the green is basically open, with no bunkers. There is a depression on the right front of the green known as Berry Hollow, and another behind the green in case you come in hot from the rough where you shouldn’t have been to start with. On the left and left front of the green are a series of rises I call Stage-Prop mounds, and you will see
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Now that I’ve had a chance to beat on you over the past few holes, I change the mood.
From The Fairway
On The Green The deal here is finesse. The club selection is usually a “tweener”- it’s tough to be sure exactly what to hit. Like most par threes, this one is simple- get it on the dance floor and make a good score. But if you hit it outside the collars, you will wonder how this easy little hole all of a sudden got so tough. Check the fringes left, right and behind. There is some bad stuff out there. But if yo
Hole 8

From The Tee Drive it over the bunkers and find yourself in perfect position. Drive it almost even with the green, and then pitch across the pond into the slope of the green for an easy three. The prO-Blem is the pond. The carry over the bunkers off the tee is about 190 yards. It’s the creek and the pond down the right side, or even worse, the right rough that will give you a high score. The back left pin fall
From The Fairway
On The Green If you are in the rough on the right this tiny green and the pin is anywhere on the right side of the putting surface, you will not be able to get it stopped near the hole.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The secret is the tee shot, it’s not as narrow as it looks.
From The Fairway The best shot is right to left, starting it at the small rolls at the edge of the fairway against the far hillside. Too much right-to-left will put you in the woods on the left where you may or may not have a shot because the fairway slopes to the left as well. There are two bunkers on the left front of the green and they have walls deep enough that you won’t be able to see.
On The Green There are some rolls on the right side. The approach after a well-struck drive can be a short iron, so I gave you some additional targets on the green. You can tell from the fairway if the pin is back because of the rise. The right front pin will allow a spinner to back off the front of the green.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee While nine looked tight off the tee, ten really is. The bunkers on the left in the distance might be reachable with a huge drive.
From The Fairway
On The Green The best location is slightly to the right of them, anyway. All of the choices are driven by The Devil’s Spine at the green, this is where Son of Spine got its name. Smart players will check the pin location when they get to the first green, which is a double green with ten. Notice that the fairway narrows as it comes closer to the green. The closer you play to the green, the better chance you hav
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee This is another one of those dig-deep holes. The carry over the bunkers off the tee is 245, and without question the angle to the green is much better from the left.
From The Fairway This fairway is wide, and there is plenty of room to play to the right, though the shot at the green is not as good because there are grassy hollows on the left side of the green,
On The Green known as Gaston’s Gulch, and a lake on the right front. From the left side you will be shooting directly into the slope of the green. The pins are all visible and the putting surface has a flashed back collar that will feed balls back toward the front. However, if you are over the green and the pin is back, good luck.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee This is the long-iron par three, and though it doesn’t have any bunkers, the surrounds are very busy, much like the sixth hole. Some of it is short grass and some of it is fescue rough.
From The Fairway
On The Green The back of the green drains to the back and to the side, so tee shots carrying the putting surface should be short rather than long. This green has one very curious attribute. If your tee shot is inside the collar and reasonably straight, the ball will bounce toward the center of the green. If it is outside the collar, even a foot, it will go the other way. Recoveries are not too tough, but you w
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee Drive the ball into the center of the opening you see from the tee and turn it left.
From The Fairway The rough is cut along the left side such that if you are in the short grass, you will have a short iron into the green. If you hug the left too far, you will be need to shape a draw around the trees to this tucked green. If you favor the right side of the fairway, your second will be a club or two longer but will open up the green for an easier approach.
On The Green The green itself is raised on a slope and has a pair of very deep short-grass hollows on the left. This green has some serious fall from back to front. The ball will stop, but if you are above the hole, just touch it.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee It is similar to nine, from a raised elevation and a nice view. The difference is that nine looks narrow, this is narrow.
From The Fairway There is mounding on the right that will protect you from going into the woods on the right. Even with this protection, the best tee shot hugs the left side of the fairway to shorten this long hole. Careful, if you get too far left, there is a sharp rise. Recovery from there is tough, from most of it you can’t see the green and the stance is not conducive to hitting hooks. In the fairway, the shot

Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee One fourth of the bunkers on the entire course are on this tee shot, none at the green.
From The Fairway The flag is visible over the horizon of the fairway. The width of the short cut of fairway is huge. The best place to be is right up the middle.
On The Green The length of the green is more than 40 yards and the hole faces the prevailing wind. The green looks small because it is long and narrow. The back of the green slopes the other way and to the left. The shot to that pin is a high fade. There is a roll across the green which tells you for sure the location of the pin. The sides of the green are supported by larger stage-prop. The idea of this green
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee There is a lake beyond the landing area and a large tree on the far slope that is a great target- maybe slightly left of it. The second shot will be uphill, across the pond. There are bunkers on the right front of the green. You won’t even be able to see the flag unless it is right along the front edge.
From The Fairway The fairway swings far out to the left, and if you have any doubts about getting home, go left. If you lay back on the second, the approach will be uphill. The green is sloping similarly to eight and 13, so being on the correct side of the pin is a big deal. Watch out for the slope of the green, it is a false front. A spinner can end up about halfway back to where you are.
On The Green This is a small green, but the putts are tough- even the short ones.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee The last par three, rounding out what might be my best collection of par threes on one golf course, is another middle iron, and the green sits at an angle to the shot. The back left is small but concave, and if you can get it in there, you will be close. Actually, the back pin may be the easiest.
From The Fairway The ones in the center and on the front will cause you to deal with the bunkers, two left front which are very deep and one behind to the right which causes you to play toward the front pin downslope. It’s a touchy shot. If you catch it clean, you might be back down in the fairway. The putting surface has some slope to it as well, but not as much as 16.
On The Green
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee Turn it left and play along the base of the big slope to the left. This will give you the best angle.
From The Fairway The fairway is wide, but when you see the pin placements, almost every one of them would be easier from the left position in the fairway. The bunker has a cape, and when the pin is tight against it, the shot from the bunker is more than tough. There are pins on the back right that are easy ones, and several along the edge of the pond. The putting surface has a break in it running parallel to the s
On The Green Hitting it to the wrong part of the green can mean bogey.
