From The Tee A steady dog-leg that opens up in the driving area but quickly closes
From The Fairway down again. Natural mounding in the fairway can reward and repent a golfers intentions. A large arching green with bunkers left and right awaits. 4 is a good score here.

From The Tee Wide off the tee but with trees each side for the wayward shot,
From The Fairway the fairway narrows and significant blue gums protect the green from wide approach play. Bunkers left, right and back surround a deceptive green.

From The Tee A complete Par 3. 150m playing a touch downhill.
From The Fairway
On The Green Most often met by a cross wind the large green is well surrounded by a bunker left and right. A natural dune complex surrounds creating an amphitheatre to the 2 tiered green.

From The Fairway The first par 5. Reachable in 2 for senior golfers but only from the fairway.
On The Green Tall trees catch the wayward tee shots and can block a player from attacking the green. Large rolling mounds make for a blind approach from more than 100m out. A large gentle looking green, but with a slippery right side.

From The Tee A narrow chute from the mens tee demands a straight hit.
From The Fairway
On The Green Like on the 5th, mounding makes for a semi blind 2nd for most golfers. Steady front to back incline on the green makes an aggressive approach possible but don’t go too far past the hole!

From The Tee Well surrounded by trees of all varieties and a large bunker on the right side of the green. A big slope from right to left. There is plenty of room under the hole to leave an uphill birdie roll.

From The Tee A meandering dog leg with a wide landing area for the drive.
From The Fairway
On The Green A dip in front and a subtle basin upon the green makes distance control on the approach a challenge. A small green makes for a make-able putt for those that find it.

Hole Name Sou West
From The Tee Out of the chute to a hole with plenty of room left and a group of trees and a depression cynically known as “Happy Valley” by the members –

On The Green its anything but. A gentle downhill approach to a green sloping away from the golfer favours a considered approach.

Hole Name Scales Knoll
From The Tee On to the back 9 and the first of back to back par 5’s
From The Fairway . A prominent ridge runs across the fairway hiding the landing zone for a solid drive. One of the widest fairways makes attacking the green in 2 shots an option.
On The Green A large green sloping uphill has a ridge running across its width.

From The Tee
From The Fairway Negotiate a tight chute to a wide fairway and you’ll be left with some distance to go.
On The Green Fescue guards the right side from wayward shots and tall pines down the left half of the hole makes an accurate second a must. Bunkers left and right to a long green.

Hole Name The Dunes
From The Tee The shortest par 3 aptly named “The Dunes”.
From The Fairway
On The Green Just over 130m to a green surrounded by mounds and bunkers. Typically played in to the easterly wind.

Hole Name Hope
From The Tee Avondale’s toughest hole. Out of bounds right, tall trees left and 369 metres in to a prevailing wind.
From The Fairway
On The Green A ridge in the landing area for most club players makes the drive tougher. The narrowest of green entries with bunkers front left and right. Par is a great score here.

Hole Name The Hollow
From The Tee The most topographical hole with undulation from start to finish.
From The Fairway
On The Green Plenty of room down the left away from the fence line but makes the approach shot tricky with large pines protecting. Mounding all around and a basin in front of a large sloping green.

Hole Name The Firs
From The Tee A long par 3 from an elevated tee is the start of a turn back towards the club house.
From The Fairway
On The Green Out of bounds all the way down the right but there is plenty of room with a gentle wide green with only a bunker at the rear. Short in front is good.
Hole 16
Hole Name Spire
From The Tee Like all the holes in the last 3rd of the course out of bounds guards the right.
From The Fairway An uphill tee shot to a narrow landing area, the fairway is a must.
On The Green A terraced fairway feeds your ball to the right rough and fescue guards a conservative approach play down the left. A flat but deceptive green is nestled close to the boundary.

Hole Name The Mound
From The Tee At its original length it measured 390 metres (now reserved for championship events)
From The Fairway the hole still proves a good challenge. Prominent trees on the right side create a steady dog leg against the right to left sloping fairway.
On The Green Maturing trees left can cost you also. A wide area from 110 metres out sets up an attacking approach to a uphill sloping green.

Hole Name Kotuku
From The Tee A hole that can make or break a round. An uphill par 3 with encroaching trees left,
From The Fairway
On The Green large pines and out of bounds right and an undulating green. A bunker short right makes for a tough up and down and a deep swail left can catch even the best of players out. Make a 3 and you should be smiling.
