Hole 1
Hole Name Get Away
From The Tee The opening hole at Bald Peak starts with a risk reward shot for the longer hitter. Playing downhill only 298 yards, a strong tee shot could start your round in a very positive way.
From The Fairway However, caution is needed as this short hole has many dangers to manage. The contour of the land is not only downhill, but left to right, making it difficult for the eye to commit to the line.
On The Green The green is a very typical Donald Ross contoured surface with two distinct tiers. Players that land the ball short of the back tier flagstick will have a difficult time two putting.
Hole 2
Hole Name Stone Quarry
From The Tee Hitting a good drive can make this green hittable in two, possibly awarding a player with a chance at an eagle. The second shot must avoid the dreaded fescue grasses that lie about 90 yards short of the green.
From The Fairway The second hole has many O-Bstacles which make this relatively short 500 yard, par 4 a challenge. The first O-Bstacle is the tree-lined, crowned fairway.
On The Green The mounds are sure to catch a ball that is sprayed left or right. The green is a hard sloping, right to left surface, with a hump located in the front middle section. Well positioned bunkers, left and right of this green, demand accurate approach shots.
Hole 3
Hole Name Across Lots
From The Tee The 364 yard, par 4 third hole is where the course starts to show its teeth. The longer hitter must be aware of the fescue mounds that come into play at around 260 yards off the tee.
From The Fairway Generally playing into the prevailing west wind, this hole is more difficult as one approaches the green.
On The Green The green slopes very hard from right to left and in general, from front to back. Making par on this hole is always a relief.
Hole 4
Hole Name Lake View
From The Tee The tee shot must be hit accurately to position the player to see the entire green for the second shot. Playing downhill and directly toward Lake Winnipesaukee, this hole is beautiful. With trouble left and right, players must not only hit a long tee shot but accurate as well.
From The Fairway The second shot plays downhill to a severely sloped green. The typical false front to this green can cause havoc to one's score if not played properly.
On The Green Long bluegrass surrounds this green and it is a real challenge to get up and down, if the ball does not find the green. A 4 on Four is a very good score.
Hole 5
Hole Name Punch Bowl
From The Tee The green is well protected with mounds and bunkers in front and mounds in back. Hitting this green on your tee shot is only half the battle.
From The Fairway Undulations and two distinct plateaus make for challenging putting. Miss this green and chances are not good to walk away with a par.
On The Green This downhill, 147 yard, par 3 enables players to feel good about hitting the green. One must pay attention to detail here as the prevailing wind coming off the lake can make club selection difficult.
Hole 6
Hole Name Big Boulder
From The Tee Running parallel to the lake, is where the 348 yard sixth hole sits. The name "Big Boulder" is quite evident as you stand on the tee and decide your strategy.
From The Fairway The fairways slopes right to left, as this hole bends slightly the same way. A good tee shot up the right side is the best angle to approach the green.
On The Green The second shot is an uphill challenge, as the green is small and severely sloped. Avoid at all cost missing this green to the right as this green slopes right to left and keeping your ball on the green becomes difficult.
Hole 7
Hole Name Plateau
From The Tee The number one handicap hole on the course, number seven at Bald Peak is a very demanding hole requiring four perfect shots to make par.
From The Fairway This uphill dogleg left has a fairway that slopes to the right. A long iron/hybrid to put the ball in good position is critical. The players uphill second shot must be long enough to avoid the false front.
On The Green Players that do not carry the ball far enough will see their ball roll some forty yards back and will be faced with a very difficult pitch shot. The green is sloped from left to right and from back to front.
Hole 8
Hole Name Upland
From The Tee Number eight is a 199 yard par 3 that plays uphill. Another Ross masterpiece, the architect used the natural contour of the land as the course turns away from the lake.
From The Fairway A long iron or fairway wood will be required for most players to reach this green. The false front catches the shots that come up short, and rolls the ball some 20 yards back.
On The Green The green is very challenging in that the slope runs from back to front. Players must keep their ball below the hole to have a reasonable putt for birdie.
Hole 9
Hole Name Some Hole
From The Tee The ninth hole is called "Some Hole" for a variety of reasons. At 554 yards, and all uphill would be enough to test any skill-level player. The real beauty of this hole starts at the men's tee box. While standing on the tee and looking back toward the 8th hole, players will be entertained by the beauty of seeing not only the 8th green but the 7th and 4th greens, all back-dropped by Lake Winnipesau
From The Fairway This is one of the most beautiful vistas at Bald Peak. All three fairway shots are important and challenging on number 9. Fescue mounds run up the right side, patiently waiting for an errant shot.
On The Green A par 5 on this hole is a fine score. The Majestic clubhouse sits behind the 9th green, with a terrace that overlooks the 9th green as well as the complete view of the fairway and the lake beyond.
Hole 10
Hole Name Westward Ho
From The Tee There is no break from challenging golf as players reach the 10th hole. This 433 yard par 4 is the most difficult hole on the back nine.
From The Fairway Out of bounds and the beautiful "Ridge" homes are on the left. Any bailout right will surely set up a long second shot with trees to block players shots.
On The Green The green is sloped from right to left and from front to back. Difficult bluegrass awaits players who miss this green with significant challenges for their short game.
Hole 11
Hole Name Hill Top
From The Tee A good tee shot leaves players with a mid-iron second shot to a green that is firm and running from front to back.
From The Fairway Running parallel to the 10th hole, the 11th hole is a 393 yard par 4. Players are greeted by a tunnel-like affect from the trees.
On The Green Bunkers protect this green on the right and left. A possible birdie hole that requires proper club selection from the fairway.
Hole 12
Hole Name Battleship
From The Tee The 12th hole at Bald Peak is a masterpiece in itself as the green rises from the ground like a battleship rises from the sea. At 138 yards in length, one would consider this to be an overwhelming task of getting the ball on the surface.
From The Fairway The hole plays slightly downhill and normally downwind. Missing this green generally results in at least a bogey as the elevated green is quite intimidating. Under this green are boulders which earned this hole its name.
On The Green The green surface is sloped from back to front with multiple tricky cup locations. Here again, make your par and move on.
Hole 13
Hole Name Dog Leg
From The Tee Number 13 is another risk reward shot for the long hitters. At 361 yards, this hole is reachable as it plays downhill.
From The Fairway But, protecting this slight dogleg left hole is a fescue mound that runs across the fairway about 50 yards short of the green.
On The Green The green is a fairly flat green that is confusing to the eye causing most players over read their putts. A good possibility to make birdie here and get one back.
Hole 14
Hole Name The Pines
From The Tee The first of three par 5's on the back nine, the 14th hole is 474 yards. A slightly blind tee shot puts a little doubt in players minds. Fescue mounds are placed strategically on the right and left to catch any stray shots.
From The Fairway Trees up the right side force golfers to be accurate with their first two shots. The trick to this hole is the green. This elevated surface is very difficult to hold and get the ball close. Again, here you will be faced with a false front rolling the ball back into the fairway, leaving yourself with a nervy pitch shot.
On The Green The green is also tricky in respect to predicting speed and slope. This green is hog backed with only the truest shots being rewarded. The slightest mishit and players will be forced to have a deft short game.
Hole 15
Hole Name Big Oak
From The Tee The second of three par 3's on the back nine, hole number 15 plays 150 yards. Here again, Donald Ross challenges players to hit an accurate tee shot to this elevated green.
From The Fairway A well placed bunker short right does not allow a player to bail out. A large tree on the left does not allow a pulled shot to be safe. A shot hit short to the false front will return the ball some 30 yards back into a closely mowed fairway.
On The Green The green on the 15th hole is of generous size. The slope from back to front, tests the nerves when putting, as a front pin could allow the ball to roll completely off the green. Here again, par is a good score.
Hole 16
Hole Name Far Away
From The Tee The three shot par 5 provides a generous layup area. This downhill hole is protected by two large bunkers around 40 yards short of the green.
From The Fairway The 16th hole is a challenging par 5. Out of bounds goes down the entire length of the right side. Long hitters must be aware of fescue mounds that pinch off the fairway at around 285 yards.
On The Green This hole encourages players to pitch and run a shot to set one up for birdie. An excellent opportunity for a birdie as the last two holes yield many bogeys or worse.
Hole 17
Hole Name The Terrace
From The Tee The 17th hole is one of the most memorable holes on this hidden gem called Bald Peak. This par 3, 192 yard beauty is very difficult even for the most accomplished players. The green is the highlight of this challenge. From the tee, this green slopes from right to left with upper and lower levels.
From The Fairway The large false front denies balls hit ever so short. Once on the green, the fun just begins. Many players have rolled their balls off the green while putting. The saddle in the middle is the only real safe place to be.
On The Green If this green is missed to the left or long, getting up and down requires a skillful touch. From the front and to the right players have a better chance. A 3 or sometimes a 4 is an excellent score depending on cup location.
Hole 18
Hole Name Home
From The Tee The 18th hole is a 573 yard par 5. Out of bounds runs up the entire right and left side. The narrow chute tee shot must be struck pure to put the ball in a position for the next layup shot. Fescue mounds run down the entire right side to stop players from bailing out.
From The Fairway Two well placed bunkers, situated about 140 yards from the green, pinch down the fairway. Longer strikers may choose to hit past these O-Bstacles to set up an easier third shot. Generous landing areas before the fescue mounds require players to hit a 160 yard third shot.
On The Green Shots that miss the green again will require shots that get the ball up in the air and land it softly. Many people find the 19th hole rum jumbie is a requirement following the back nine.
