Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee Into the normal prevailing wind, tee up on the right hand side of the tee
From The Fairway box and aim at the left-hand half of the fairway. Like all dog-leg holes, if you tee-shot is not in prime position you can shape
On The Green the ball around a large horse chestnut tree with fade or draw, over or even under. The sensible option is to play for position to pitch for the green. Trying too hard to make four can easily end up a six, when to take five is not a bad start.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee A good tee shot, as near as the water as you dare, leaves a short iron to the green, with the trick being to leave the ball on the same tier as the flag.
From The Fairway
On The Green A good tee shot, as near as the water as you dare, leaves a short iron to the green, with the trick being to leave the ball on the same tier as the flag.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee Even the longest hitters find it almost impossible to reach this green in two shots,
From The Fairway a true par-five, which would be easier without very well placed bunkers to catch your ball from the tee and from the second shot.
On The Green Anything left brings trouble all the way from tee to green. Play the hole the long way around, avoiding the bunkers. To drop one or even two shots to par is no disgrace.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee With most holes the position of the tee markers doesn't make too much difference to the type of shot played.
From The Fairway Here is the exception, for the hole plays very differently when the markers are placed on the right side of the tee.
On The Green This opens up the possibility of trying to draw the ball around the trees in front of you, a much more difficult shot than a fade, which is suitable from the left side of the tee. Left-handers have similar prO-Blems.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee This mid-length par 4 has improved over the years with the addition of
From The Fairway well placed fairway bunkers, well established juvenile trees left and right, new revetted green-side Bunkers, as well as more length than of old.
On The Green Some of the old holes at Blankney were very "Open" from the tee, but this is now an example of the punishment which awaits for missing the fairway.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Two of the most difficult tee shots at Blankney, are by common opinion, at the 6th and the 12th.
From The Fairway For the average man (and longer hitting woman) golfers, the narrowest part of the fairway equates to the precise distance of the players tee shot.
On The Green If you were to place a ball on the fairway at actual normal driving distance, you would favour the left side to open up to green.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee The first and shortest of the par 3's played across a hollow between tee and green,
From The Fairway entails some are tricky club selection at times. It is quite difficult to judge to direction of the wind from the sheltered tee,
On The Green therefore it is always pleasing to see the ball hit the putting surface. The green slopes from back to front, and is one of the earliest greens remaining at Blankney.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee The 8th offers medium and longer hitters an opportunity of scoring.
From The Fairway Avoid the well placed fairway bunkers from the tee, and too much at right shoulder with your second shot, and you are home and dry.
On The Green Occasionally however, the pin is placed on the on the top level of the raised green, and then it should be approached with caution. Going through the back will inevitably cost a shot, and putting up the tier, will require a good read and skill.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The 9th is a long dog-leg, with well placed bunkers at the corner.
From The Fairway The prevailing wind left to right, and slightly against is not helpful, but follow a simple logic. Most golfers would be best playing for a five and single putting for a four,
On The Green than pressing for a par and taking a six. Use your shots and deflate your ego, up for this hole is not as difficult as we make it. The green is slightly elevated and protected by bunkers, with a large tier halfway across.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee Improvements to this hole at the front of the green allow a few more balls to stay on the putting surface.
From The Fairway
On The Green Usually a middle iron is enough, with a 7 wood coming in handy for Seniors and Ladies. Distance and loft is always a difficult combination, and that is exactly the requirement to remain on the green.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee This is the only hole on the course without bunkers.
From The Fairway However there are still several hazards, such as the out of bounds on the left, the thick rough on the right, the large Sycamore two-thirds along the right, the trees left to the green and the deepest green on the course. It justifies the stroke index of five. The hole sits beautifully at the end of the Park and is a favourite amongst members of visitors, particularly when you have split the fairw
On The Green The road across that fairway is guarded by rough, and the green is split level, narrow, and offers some of the greater borrows on the course.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee After hitting a drive and a mid-iron to secure a par, most poeple wonder why this is stroke index 1,
From The Fairway right up until they play it again! Tee up on the left to avoid the trees, and to give room for the approach around the sharp dog-leg. Be warned however, the bunkers are well within range for all players.
On The Green
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee As with most good par-three’s, we are rewarded for a good "golf shot", with height and stop.
From The Fairway This hole is no exception, with hollows in the front to punish a low scuttler and bunkers await for the misjudged shot.
On The Green Beware the wind direction before selecting your club as the tee box is well sheltered, except for the prevailing wind.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee A dead straight hole, you can see the green from the tee,
From The Fairway however fairway bunkers on the left narrow the landing area for most golfers. The young trees on the right now have enough foliage to make life difficult.
On The Green
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee With the white tees well back from the yellows (and a short bus ride from the Reds!),
From The Fairway a pulled shot bouncing down the road for a distance before flicking back onto the fairway, is always welcome when it sometimes happens.
On The Green Unusually for Blankney, here all the trouble is on the right, except for the well placed pot bunker, which will catch the long hitters from the White tees, but is definitely in play from the yellows for most people.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee This is the most difficult of the Par 3's on the course, 200 yards uphill mean that many players will require a wood here.
From The Fairway The green is guarded well by a hollow in front and to the left, and bunkers to the right. The best advice here is to take plenty of club and go for the middle of the green irrespective of the pin position.
On The Green The green slopes from back to front with a tier angled accoss approximately two-thirds up the green.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee Tee up on the left hand side of the tee, to play right and away from the out-of-bounds woods.
From The Fairway Bunkers are placed here to catch long and short drives, so accuracy is at a premium, but better the bunkers than out of bounds.
On The Green The second shot is not usually long, but requires a good judge of distance as the green is extremely narrow, and you will be lucky to drop only one shot if you overshoot it. The green has multiple slopes and a large tier on the right.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee The course ends on a friendlier note with this short par 5, offering a birdie opportunity to finish.
From The Fairway
On The Green Tee up on the left of the tee to take advantage of the prevailing wind and aim for the right-hand half of the fairway. From the ridge, the green is reachable for most players either on the full, or by using the gully in front.
