Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee This beautiful, challenging opening hole requires a long and accurate tee shot that finds both
From The Fairway the fairway and the bottom of the hill, which will result in a level lie for the approach
On The Green The elevated green makes it difficult to get close to any pin position. Par is a very good score on the third most difficult hole on the Hill course.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee This par 5 is completely uphill from tee to green, but can be a birdie hole if played correctly
From The Fairway
On The Green as long hitters can reach the shorter distance in two. Favor the left side off the tee, but remember to keep your second shot accurate to avoid the deep greenside bunkers. As are most approaches on the Hill course, keeping the ball below the hole is key, as this green is deceptively fast.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee The third hole is a dog-leg left par 4 with trees lining the left side.
From The Fairway Your target is the right side of the fairway to avoid being blocked out on your approach.
On The Green The green slopes from left to right, with bunkers lining the right side of the green, so your approach should favor the left side of this narrow green.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The first par 3 on the front nine is fairly short and uphill to a very small green
From The Fairway
On The Green Bunker guard the right side of the green, with the miss being short.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee This par 4 is the toughest hole on the Hill Course
From The Fairway Not only is it one of the longest par 4’s on the course, but it is uphill the entire length of the hole and has a tendency to play into the prevailing wind. Favor the left side of the fairway
On The Green away from the bunkers, and be sure to take enough club on the approach. Favor the right side of the green, as all putts break hard to the left, towards the greenside bunker.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee One of the shortest holes on the course offers some of the best views on the front nine
From The Fairway
On The Green This attractive par 3 should be easy, if you don’t end up in one of the two deepest bunkers on the Hill Course. This is also one of the flattest greens on the course, making a birdie chance for all golfers.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Although the par 4 7th hole plays downhill, it is one of the longest par 4’s in the East Bay
From The Fairway Your tee shot must find this narrow fairway, with most golfers aiming towards the left rough as everything slopes from left to right. There is out of bounds lining almost the entire length of the fairway, so accurate approach shots will help keep your score low. Par is a very good score on this hole.
On The Green
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee One of the straightest holes on the course is the par 4 8th,
From The Fairway with little trouble off the tee other than out of bounds on both side of the holes. Tee shots should favor the left side of the fairway,
On The Green avoiding the large oak tree that is 150 yards from the green. Another large oak tree guards this long green, with bunkers guarding the right side, making this approach a challenging one.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee First of two consecutive short par 4’s is the 9th hole
From The Fairway which is famous for some of the most difficult pin positions at The Club at Castlewood. The fairway slopes from left to right, which helps as there are two
On The Green large oaks that can block approach shots that end up on the left side of this fairway. The two tiered green can make putting a challenge, so be sure to locate the pin position and play enough club.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee Risk versus reward is the summary of the 10th hole.
From The Fairway
On The Green Long hitters can take a longer club and aim over the large oak tree to attempt to hit this green in one shot, but trouble looms near the green. Beside the trees, there is a large left side slope, deep greenside bunkers and out of bounds surrounding the entire hole. For those looking for the safe route, favor a mid-iron to the right side of the fairway, which leaves a relatively easy approach to a
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee The par 5 11th hole requires your most accurate tee shot of the day,
From The Fairway
On The Green with a tree-lined left side and out of bounds down the right side of this uphill hole. Your approach shot is somewhat blind to a fairly receptive green, only guarded by one greenside bunker.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee A short, uphill par 3 requires a well-struck shot with enough club,
From The Fairway
On The Green that must hold a small green guarded by a greenside bunker and a large oak tree on the right side. Many shots come up short here.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee The first of four consecutive par 4’s is the 13th hole,
From The Fairway which is a slight dog-leg right with the fairway sloping from left to right.
On The Green This well-bunkered green gently slopes from left to right as well, so the safe shot is the left side with plenty of club to this uphill approach.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway The 14th hole allows golfers to “tee it high and let it fly” on one of the widest fairways on the course.
On The Green Longer tee shots will leave a short approach shot to this small, narrow green. The green is protected by bunkers on the right side, as getting up-and-down from here will test any player. Stay below the hole for easier putts to a green that pitches hard from back to front.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee The 15th hole is the hardest hole on the back nine for most
From The Fairway with drives that should favor the left side of the fairway
On The Green Conversely, favor the right side of the elevated green as the left side drops off making it challenging to make par.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee Straightaway par 4 allowing golfers hit all the way
From The Fairway
On The Green up to the greenside lake that surrounds ½ of the green. The challenge is near the green, with a beautiful waterfall, multiple bunkers on either side, and a two-tiered green that slopes from back to front.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee The 17th hole has the most beautiful view of the surrounding area, and although it seems like a harmless hole,
From The Fairway
On The Green can challenge players of all skill levels. Golfers will be able to take less club due to the drop in elevation, but holding this severely pitched green can be difficult. Most golfers will favor the right side of the green, with the goal of landing just short and letting the ball roll out. The left side of the green is heavily guarded by bunkers and large oak trees, which can easily add strokes to
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway The final hole on the Hill course is a downhill par 4, with tee shots that must find the fairway
On The Green The green is well bunkered and slopes from front to back, making a short approach shot better when attempting to stop a ball near the pin. Enjoy the views as you finish our round.
