Hole 1
Hole Name The Lodge
From The Tee The Lodge on the left of the first fairway was formerly the gateway to the Beaumanor Estate.
From The Fairway The opening hole is a fairly straight par 4, with out of bounds on your left and thick rough and trees on your right. The fairway narrows beyond about 200 yards and the ball runs towards the left.
On The Green The green has a steep bank on the right hand side and the out of bounds wall continues to the left.
Hole 2
Hole Name Beacon View
From The Tee The elevated tees give a picturesque view over the fairway and towards Beacon Hill.
From The Fairway This dog-leg right means a straight tee shot is needed, towards the far oak trees.
On The Green From there it takes a good shot to land on the green in regulation. Bear in mind that there is a steep slope down which runs from left to right.
Hole 3
Hole Name Blackbird's Nest
From The Tee There are wonderful views to admire from the tee as
From The Fairway the fairway drops steeply in front of you. A dry stone wall crosses this fairway and trees to the right can catch many a wayward tee shot.
On The Green Once you are past the copse and the pond, then the fairway follows a dog-leg right. The green slopes upward from front to back, with steep sides.
Hole 4
Hole Name Outwoods
From The Tee This short par 4 requires a drive over the ditch and then a second shot over a dry stone wall.
From The Fairway There is a wide landing area for the tee shot, but if you miss on either the right or the left,
On The Green the trees will block out your second shot to the green. Take care if you get too close to the wall.
Hole 5
Hole Name Whitings
From The Tee The first par 3 hole on the course requires an accurate iron shot from the tee to
From The Fairway a long and narrow green, which runs uphill. Watch out for the trees on the left, which often catch a wayward tee shot. The green features some subtle breaks and good judgment of pace is needed to avoid a three putt.

Hole 6
Hole Name Hangingstone
From The Tee For the men, this is deservedly the SI 1 and hardest hole on the course.
From The Fairway The 6th hole is a long par 4, with out of bounds all the way down the left and heather beds and thick rough all down the right. On the back nine the 15th is played as a par 5 and the tee provides spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Take your medicine from the rough, as playing an attacking shot often results in a double bogey. The fairway
On The Green slopes from right to left and in the summer you get a lot of run on the ball, which can take it down close to the OO-B wall. Aim to the right when playing into the green; shots to the left often run down the bank leaving a difficult chip back onto the green.
Hole 7
Hole Name Grunters
From The Tee Grunters is a long par 3 played from elevated tees to a narrow green which has slopes from left to right.
From The Fairway It requires an accurate long iron but some will need a driver! There is a steep slope on the right hand side, which will throw the ball down towards the rough. On the left there is a shallower bank which can provide a landing area.
On The Green
Hole 8
Hole Name Herrick's Ride
From The Tee The 17th hole, played off the back tees presents a fantastic challenge to men players.
From The Fairway The hole is not long, but you will need to get the corner of the dog-leg to have a decent shot to the green. The fairway runs right to left, so anything short and central will run towards to birch and fir trees on the corner, blocking out your second shot. There is much more room on the right than you might think from the tee.
On The Green
Hole 9
Hole Name Herds Way
From The Tee The 9th / 18th of each nine is played from elevated tees and is a dog-leg left back to the clubhouse.
From The Fairway There is gorse and a heather bed on the left corner, which should be avoided. There is also out of bounds on the left hand side,
On The Green all the way down to the green. The green slopes from back to front, making it difficult to get the ball to stop, particularly in the summer months.
