Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The opening hole is a slight dogleg to the right that challenges the player’s tee shot with a long fairway bunker on the left
From The Fairway and a dramatically sloped fairway that requires distance control with a reward for challenging the heavily wooded right side.
On The Green The approach to the largest putting surface on the course is well guarded by bunkers on the left and right. A fairway approach bunker prevents escape for tee shots lost to the right.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee The first of six par 3’s displays the largest change of elevation from the tee to the green
From The Fairway This downhill par 3 requires precision and distance control to a green protected by two green side bunkers on the left.
On The Green This hole does allow for an approach from the front right that rolls downhill to undulated putting surface.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee The third is a subtle straight par 4 that is deceptive to the eye but contains multiple challenges to the player. The tee shot
From The Fairway must negotiate a hidden fairway bunker that runs the entire left side of the landing area while the right side is protected by trees and out of bounds
On The Green The short to moderate approach to an undulated multi-level putting surface guarded by bunkers on the left and right front requires the player to play to the correct area of the green or face a difficult putt.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The first par 5 of two consecutive par fives on the front nine requires the first precisely placed tee shot to a narrow fairway guarded by the railroad and out of bounds on the right side and deep rough and trees to the left.
From The Fairway A hidden water hazard dissects the fairway that must be considered by the longest hitters off the tee and then meanders along the left side of the landing area of the second or layup shots.
On The Green The option to layup must take into consideration the well placed approach bunkers on the left and right side of the fairway in the landing zone.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee The second consecutive par 5 on the front nine is the longest of Cherokee's four par 5 holes.
From The Fairway This hole requires the player to thread the needle off the tee to a narrow fairway protected by heavy rough and trees on both the left and right side
On The Green Longer hitters may reach this par 5 in two, but most players will have to contend with the large putting surface with a deep swale in the center requires players to be extremely accurate with their approach shot or face a very difficult putt.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee This elevated par 3 requires one of the most accurate shots on the course and typically plays longer than the yardage.
From The Fairway This elevated green is protected on both the left and right front by deep bunkers.
On The Green Shots not carrying the green can easily roll back into a deep swale short of the green making for a difficult save.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee This par 4 is a very deceptive short hole.
From The Fairway The fairway has two cross bunkers that challenge the player to either carry a long tee shot over or lay up short of the bunkers.
On The Green The layup creates a partially blind approach to an elevated putting surface that is protected by deep bunkers on both the left and right green side. Any approach over this elevated green complex makes for a very difficult recovery.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee This elevated short par 3 has several of the most challenging hole locations on the course.
From The Fairway The putting surface is protected by five greenside bunkers with the two forward bunkers being extremely deep and extremely difficult to recover from.
On The Green This putting surface has several mini quadrants with undulations that challenge the best of putting strokes.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee This short dogleg left par 4 completes the front nine. While not challenging with length,
From The Fairway Missing the fairway makes for a much more difficult approach and less chance to keep the ball on the slightly elevated green complex.
On The Green this finishing hole requires a strategically placed tee shot that need to find the fairway which affords a short approach to a severely sloped two tier putting green.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee This short par 3 requires the longest carry over Cherokee’s largest water hazard
From The Fairway This fairly level elevated green is protected on the right front by a greenside bunker.
On The Green However, any tee shot not finding the putting surface is sure to bounce away from the green into different collection areas.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee This multi-level putting surface makes for difficult ups and downs for shots missed attempting to reach the green in two as well as missed approaches.
From The Fairway This short par 5 is very reachable by the longer hitters who avoid the cross bunker and right fairway bunker.
On The Green This elevated green is part of a double-green shared with the par 4 fifteenth. The putting green is protected by a large, deep, right green-side and long green-side bunker on the left.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee This long par 3 may well be the most challenging hole in East Tennessee if not the southeast
From The Fairway With a creek running along the entire left side of the hole and green as well as out of bounds running along the entire right side of the hole, the player has no room for error.
On The Green This hole requires a well-played, accurate long shot in order to reach the green which is protected by a cross bunker on the left.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee This par 4 slight dogleg left is one of the most picturesque holes on the course. The tee shot must carry the large natural area and water hazard that separate the tee complexes and the landing area. The water hazard continues along the left for the entire length of the hole.
From The Fairway Two large cross bunkers protect the left side of the fairway requiring the player to place a tee shot with precise distance. Deep rough and out of bounds protects the right side of the hole.
On The Green The green complex that is positioned in the corner of the property is protected by green-side bunkers on both the front left and right of the putting surface.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway This medium length par 3 is positioned in a framed green complex that is protected on the left by a winding creek and two elevated greenside bunkers on the right.
On The Green A player must play a precise shot to this elevated undulated green.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee This long par 4 is the second half of the double green complex shared with the 11th hole
From The Fairway The fairway is dissected with two cross bunkers to influence the longer hitter. A fairway bunker protects the right side of the fairway while natural grasses guard the left.
On The Green Most players are faced with a medium to long approach to this large elevated green. There are no easy two putts on this extremely undulated green.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee The last of the par 5's is a straight hole requiring a tee shot that must carry an elevated fairway landing area. Longer hitters finding the landing area are faced with a heavily guarded but reachable green
From The Fairway Tee shots failing to reach the elevated fairway give players a difficult second shot over a large fairway ravine. Shots failing to reach the second landing zone will roll back into the ravine creating a blind approach.
On The Green The green complex is protected on the left by a green-side bunker and natural area, while a green-side bunker, two fairway bunkers, and a sloped drop off protect the right side and rear of the hole.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee This long par 4 requires a well positioned tee shot to a severely sloped fairway.
From The Fairway The left side of the fairway is protected by a long fairway bunker leaving an uphill, medium to long approach. The right side is protected by heavy forest and out of bounds
On The Green The multi-level putting surface is protected by two left green-side bunkers and one rear green-side bunker. This par 4 is the first of two difficult finishing holes.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee This par 4 dogleg right requires a lengthy tee shot to carry past the right corner of the hole which is protected by large trees
From The Fairway . Once past the corner the player is faced with an extremely uphill approach to the most undulated putting surface on the course in an amphitheater setting.
On The Green The green is protected by a pot bunker on the right, two green-side bunkers on the left, and large mounds in the rear. The green is separated by a large elevated slope separating the front and rear sections of the green which makes for difficult putting and a great finishing hole.
