Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee It appears kind of benign for a first hole, but you have to hit a good tee shot.
From The Fairway You’ll be left with a short iron or wedge over our own Swilcan Burn, which is tough at the first.
On The Green . We always talk about the fact that if this were the 12th or 13th hole on the West it would seem easy, but that’s not really the case at the beginning of the round.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee I really like this hole. It’s a very demanding par-4.
From The Fairway . Keep your drive in the left or center of the fairway, but short of the bunker. If you’re right you will be totally blocked out. Even with a perfect drive you can’t see the bottom of the flag for your approach - and if you go in the bunkers short and right, good luck.
On The Green The green is extremely difficult to putt.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee You’ll really need to get this tee shot to the correct spot in the fairway - center or left, because right and you’re dead.
From The Fairway If you have to recover from there though, creativity helps. It will require a great punch shot running low onto the green.
On The Green With the perfect tee shot you’ll attack the hole, but the green has lots of slope, especially on the left side - we call that the 'Talladega High Bank
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee A very straightforward par-5. Drive it a little left of center, then lay up to around 80 yards
From The Fairway Also, the farther left you see the flagstick the worse your score is likely to be. A back-left flag is almost impossible.
On The Green hit a good wedge, and make an easy birdie. If you reach the green in two, you’ll prO-Bably make par instead.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee Three is always a good score here. If you make birdie, you stole it.
From The Fairway The big bunker right catches a lot of shots, but is a surprisingly easy play compared to the back bunker on the left.
On The Green Our longest and most demanding par-3. The shallow green requires a precise long iron or hybrid into it
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Six is the ruin of many a good round. For me, it’s the hardest tee shot to get into play. From the back tee, depending on the wind
From The Fairway I hit 5-wood, 3-wood, or driver and try to control a fade into the fairway
On The Green hen, you must get on the green or you’re toast. If you do miss, though, you’re better off in the deep, right bunker than letting the approach come back down the hill into the fairway. A hole-high approach is a must.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Keep your tee shot right.
From The Fairway A large, deep bunker frames the fairway left and is a one-shot penalty. You don’t want to be there
On The Green Your second shot plays a club downhill to a green that is guarded by the stream left. A front-left hole location is treacherous. Birdies will be rare."
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee The hole location can turn this into a difficult hole. The tee shot is easy, but don’t get too far right, or you end up in a big grass hole.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green is unbelievably fast going from the left to the right side, or toward the back.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee A short par-4 that can spark a comeback, but a misplaced wedge or short iron can also deflate momentum.
From The Fairway If the hole is front right hit the approach to the middle at least 15 feet left of the flagstick.
On The Green . And then don’t putt it off the green." -
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee This is my favorite hole - our best risk-reward par-5. It’s a “go for it hole.” A good tee shot sets up for a high, soft mid-iron
From The Fairway but with a slight tug you’ll be working for par.
On The Green Use caution on any front hole location; a back hole is the easiest, but over the green is dead. This is the best green complex on the course."
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee "A pretty straightforward hole. It’s usually your friend, but a tee shot to the left side can eliminate any progress you made on 9 and 10.
From The Fairway The right side is not too good either. If there were water here, I’d rather be in it than in the back bunker!
On The Green
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee The only drivable par-4 on the course.
From The Fairway . Avoid the mounds right of the fairway and the stream left
On The Green If you don’t go for the green off the tee be sure to lay up far enough back to spin your approach shot to the tricky green, which slopes front to back. I say go for it. You can’t pass up this birdie opportunity heading into the teeth of the course
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee If the hole is back right it turns this into “the shortest par 5” on the golf course.
From The Fairway
On The Green It’s often an easy par 3 but for the back flag. If it’s there you can make 5, 6, or 7.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway My favorite par-4 at CCB. Pound it up the left side setting up an accurate iron into a narrow green you cannot afford to miss left.
On The Green The lake frames the green on the right side and sets up one of our most picturesque holes. It’s perfect."
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A long, three-shot par-5 with a generous fairway. A layup must avoid the left bunkers leading to an uphill third
On The Green My advice is to lay up to the top of the hill on the right side of the fairway to avoid the tree that guards any left hole location. A birdie on this par-5 is a good score.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee "Favor the right side of the fairway, and get your tee shot in play. Avoid going left at all costs.
From The Fairway
On The Green If the flagstick is underneath the big ridge in the green this is an easy birdie, as any approach to the right side will funnel down to the hole. If the hole is up top, well, good luck
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee This hole demands four good shots. As you come off the tee into the fairway don’t drive it over the hill.
From The Fairway It’s much better to hit the approach from the hilltop
On The Green The second shot goes downhill into prO-Bably the hardest green on the West - it’s the only one that runs completely away from you. It’s best to land it short and let the ball roll on. And even flag high can be a difficult putt.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee "This is the poster child for the West Course at CCB, and it’s easy to be mesmerized by the scenery.
From The Fairway But a good drive followed by a bad approach shot will leave a sour taste on your round.
On The Green If you have to have birdie here, your best chance will be when the flagstick is back righ
