Hole 1
Hole Name Manor Drive
From The Tee The first hole is an attractive hole featuring water and out of bounds.
From The Fairway The best shot will be down the left side of the fairway to open up the green that presents at an angle to the fairway.
On The Green Only the very best can reach the green and take on the water!
Hole 2
Hole Name Peel Rise
From The Tee The second can be a long par 4 when the wind is in your face,
From The Fairway but if you drive the ball well and avoid the fairway bunker, the green will be no more than a mid iron.
On The Green
Hole 3
Hole Name Lodge Field
From The Tee Stand on the Tee and all you can see is trees because this hole is a long slow dog leg left.
From The Fairway The first O-Bstacle is the fairway bunker on the left edge of the fairway.
On The Green
Hole 4
Hole Name Foxes Folly
From The Tee The first par 3 and the first of the 4 holes on this course that prove that a good golf hole does not need to be 450yards long.
From The Fairway
On The Green
Hole 5
Hole Name Rhododendrons
From The Tee A very underrated hole in many eyes, but look at the cards after your round and don't be surprised to find 5's and 6's!
From The Fairway Standing on the tee you see trees and a very narrow fairway, this is the illusion of the course architect. The fairway is very generous, however, those that do not go in the Rhododendrons on the corner, have to avoid the push / slice into the trees on the right.
On The Green
Hole 6
Hole Name Midlands Choice
From The Tee The second par 3 presents a different challenge to the 4th hole.
From The Fairway The distance is similar from the back tees, but the tree at the front right of the green means that you need to shape a shot if the pin is front right.
On The Green The distance is similar from the back tees, but the tree at the front right of the green means that you need to shape a shot if the pin is front right.
Hole 7
Hole Name Keepers Cottage
From The Tee The first par 5. This is surely one of the best chances you will have of making ground.
From The Fairway Some 40 yards short of the green is a fairway bunker - again on the right. The ground between the bunker and green is not easily seen and you can be short if you are not familiar with the hole.
On The Green
Hole 8
Hole Name Braids Best
From The Tee This hole takes no prisoners if you are not straight off the tee.
From The Fairway It is long and against the prevailing wind, so if you play it on a day when the wind is not against you, be happy! It is not S.I.1 for nothing.
On The Green
Hole 9
Hole Name Bide-a-while
From The Tee A great end to the front 9. The tee shot suits a draw on this slight dog leg. Long hitters can run out of room with a driver if to straight.
From The Fairway The approach to the green is very narrow between the bunkers, so any balls landing short of the green will have to be very accurate. It suits a higher flight to carry the front right bunker, which catches many a ball.
On The Green Beware of the out of bounds beyond the path over the back of the green.
Hole 10
Hole Name Mallards Corner
From The Tee Ignore the irrigation pond in front of the tee.
From The Fairway Likewise, the bunker in the fairway on the left can be cleared with
On The Green a good drive and you will find yourself in a good position to hit a short to mid iron into the green.
Hole 11
Hole Name Tickly Tap
From The Tee By the time you get here, it seems a long time since you played a par 3. So enjoy it! It is the last on the course.
From The Fairway Not much more than a short iron perhaps a 7 from the back, this green is slightly elevated with a big drop at the back and right. If you think therefore to go short or left, then look out for the bunkers.
On The Green
Hole 12
Hole Name Waters Meet
From The Tee This hole represents the catch if the wind is with you on the 8th.
From The Fairway It goes exactly in the opposite direction and when the wind blows against you it is a monster. That apart, from the white tees, this is one of the narrowest driving holes on the course. From the tee, look at the trees right and left, the ponds right and left and believe they are in play.
On The Green
Hole 13
Hole Name Offas Way
From The Tee The 13th presents the good golfer with an opportunity, but you do need to be LONG off the tee to take advantage of this par 5.
From The Fairway
On The Green Beware the O-B on the right - it goes nearly all the way down the hole for some 400 yards, but don't get protective as this will put you in the deepest of difficulties behind the trees if you go left.
Hole 14
Hole Name Sandyback
From The Tee This short par 4 is a favourite of mine. I remember playing
From The Fairway this hole with a well known member who made the best quadruple bogey 8 I ever saw on a golf course.
On The Green He lashed his first ball out of bounds, reloaded and lashed the second ball into the same field, the same fate awaited his third ball.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee Now you have negotiated the short par 4, look at this. SI 2 this hole can destroy your score.
From The Fairway Stand on the tee and the drive is very narrow with serious trees on the right and trees along the tee on the left.
On The Green A good drive aimed at the left of the big dipper in the Manor, is the line, but a drive too far and too straight and you are in trouble in the trees facing you on the dog leg.
Hole 16
Hole Name Bassetts End
From The Tee Hit a good drive and the 16th is a little flick into the green with an 8 iron.
From The Fairway However, off the tee, look at the pond on your left - at the end of that ditch again!
On The Green It's only 60 yards away from the tee but it has some large trees around it. For a slicer, it can be a big O-Bstacle, but avoiding the trees round the pond may only mean you may push your ball into the trees on the right!
Hole 17
Hole Name The Paddock
From The Tee The 17th is another short par 4. If you take this hole anything less than seriously, you might as well take your card and throw it in the bin.
From The Fairway The hole is just 278 yards and the drive is fraught with difficulty through a narrow tree lined approach with a deep depression opposite the corner of the O-B which is on the right side of the fairway.
On The Green As the 11th green is on the left, always shout if you hit your drive left!
Hole 18
Hole Name Clubhouse Turn
From The Tee ...and now to the final climactic hole. With a long cool drink beckoning a
From The Fairway
On The Green long drive is absolutely vital on this left hand dog leg. You will need to hit a straight drive at least 220 yards. in order to be able to see the green.
