Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The area behind the green is called Hammerdammen and is a floodplain which, via the Rislebækken to the east (right), drains to Arreskov Sø. The Hammer Dam is one of the lake's, and thus Odense Å's, most important source areas, and it contains a rich flora and fauna.
From The Fairway The area is owned by the state and is designated for grazing. The beautiful stone dikes are old field dividers between Hvedholm and Sandholt.

Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee The large hill to the left from the tee is a typical old pasture where cattle or sheep were grazed. In the valleys the soil was fertile, but further up the soil was leaner, and it was not profitable to grow crops here. That is why the animals were put to pasture here.
From The Fairway The exaggerations are unfortunately disappearing from the Danish landscape, and with it many plant and insect species are also disappearing. There is a lot of game in the area, and in the early mornings you can often see deer, foxes and badgers.

From The Tee The lakes around the green are some of the many small waterholes in the area that ensure a good well-being for the amphibians. The waterholes are so close that the animals can easily walk between them.
From The Fairway Amphibians have a thin, delicate skin. Eg. potassium (K) from fertilizers can easily migrate through the skin, and since potassium has a paralyzing effect on the animals' central nervous system, they will die if they pass an area where fertilizers have been spread (especially in granules).

Hole Name
From The Tee The stone fence and earthen embankment to the left of the tee and later across the hole is an old field divide. Before Dalkildegårds Allé (th) was built, the road from Odensevej towards Nørremarken probably ran along this fence.
From The Fairway The road has ended at an intersection right at the entrance to the hole, where the remains of the transverse road to the north can be seen as a pothole between the path and the fence. From the tee you can also still see the southbound road towards Svanninge between the trees across hole 7.

From The Tee The large lake to the right of hole 4 has expanded in recent years. This means that it has now regained the size it had according to the first map of Denmark from the Royal Society of Sciences.
From The Fairway The map was begun in 1763 and was completed 80 years later. For many years, the water table has been lowered by drainage, but now the drains are closed.

Hole Name
From The Tee Until around 1900, Svanninge Bakker was only covered with forest to a limited extent. Instead, the hills were covered with heather, and sheep grazed everywhere.
From The Fairway However, the area north of Restaurant Skovlyst was often plagued by such violent sand drifts that the coachman on the stagecoach to Odense had to go out and shovel to get there. That is why they planted a hedge of conifers along the road. It turned out that the conifers were a good business.

Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee The forest behind the lake on the left is a hardwood demonstration plant. The conifers seen in the area are called nurse trees, as they are planted solely to help other, permanent trees on their way, after which they are felled.
From The Fairway In the gorge after the transverse path, a stream once ran along the old road down towards Svanninge, but it disappeared after a storm in 1880. In the hedgerows, many small birds find food, shelter and nesting places.

Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee At the edge of the forest on the left in the corner hangs one of the area's four owl boxes. The owl boxes have been purchased by the golf club to ensure that the many night owls have sufficient nesting places.
From The Fairway As the forest in the area is relatively young, the owls do not have many opportunities to find old hollow trees for nesting.

Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The hole in front of tee site 57/50 is the remains of an old gravel pit. The hole to the right of the green is an old ice cave that has been used for storing ice right up to the end of the 19th century.

From The Tee The ice moved like large glaciers down over Funen - first from the north-east and then from the south-east through the Baltic Sea area towards the Little Belt.
From The Fairway These glaciers acted like bulldozers, pushing up the frozen ground in front of them, forming the high hills. For a longer period, a stagnant ice mass also covered large parts of Southwest Funen.

From The Tee Enjoy the wonderful view from the teahouse, especially in clear weather. Look in the direction of the strike - from left to right over Horne Land, Helnæs Bay, with the elongated Illumø, the village of Falsled, Helnæs and at the back Little Belt.
From The Fairway To the right is Trebjerg, which is South Funen's highest point at 128 m a.s.l. In comparison, the highest point on the hill to the right of the 10th green is 108 m a.s.l.

From The Tee Before you tee off, take the time to go out through the gate behind the tee and enjoy the magnificent view. The path system, which you encounter in several places on the golf course, reaches from Kastaniely in Svanninge all the way to Arreskov Sø.
From The Fairway The paths are marked with yellow spots on trees and poles, and signage has been established all the way to ensure that no one gets lost. You can choose shorter or longer trips, depending on time and energy.

Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee There is a rich bird life on the areas where the golf course is located, which is due to the many different habitats. Fairways, greens and tees are generally not particularly interesting areas for wildlife, but in the semirough and rough there are quite a few small animals and plant seeds to be found.
From The Fairway These areas are also habitat for voles, voles and voles, which are sought after by night owls and kestrels. Larks and partridges also breed in the rough - two species that normally have a hard time in the modern agricultural landscape.

From The Tee In connection with the environmental work, there have been changes to the furniture on the golf course. The tee spot markings have become flat - signs and benches have been changed so that they show as little as possible - as few poles as possible are used for markings so as not to spoil the nature experience.
From The Fairway Posts and benches are designed as in the state forests and made of wood. As can be seen in several places on the golf course, solitary trees develop quite differently from trees that stand close together.

From The Tee The slope to the left, 150 m before the trees, is called Hestebakken. A collaboration between Funen's State Forest District and the Entomological Society (entomology = the study of insects) has made this slope one of the most interesting areas in Denmark for rare insect species.

From The Tee The church behind the teahouse is Svanninge Kirke. As it now appears, it was built in 1837 by the Count of Hvedholm Preben Bille Brahe Selby, but the church dates all the way back to the Middle Ages, which i.a. seen by its boulder foundation.
From The Fairway The ditch edge on the left towards the road is in the summer a cornucopia of chicory, poppies and everything else that you associate with an old-fashioned ditch edge. The lark likes to breed here, as both hide and food suit it well.

From The Tee The elm disease, which is a fungal disease spread by the elm bark beetle, has killed most of the elm trees around the golf course. Some of the trees that stood close to the paths have been felled to prevent them from falling on the heads of passers-by.

From The Tee The avenue, which was first planted in 1919 and protected in 1976, is of Bornholm rowan. During the hurricane in December 1999, around half of the trees fell, and the Norwegian Forest and Nature Agency together with e.g. Faaborg Municipality subsequently felled the remaining trees and planted new ones in 2000.
