Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee A bit of a challenge at the beginning of the round, especially when people are curiously watching you in the tournament. Because this train is not without danger.
From The Fairway Players with a higher handicap must pay attention to the out-of-bounds boundary and the bunker landscape on the right, players with a lower handicap must pay attention to the moat and the rough on the left.
On The Green My advice: It's better to slow down and hit the tee shot safely into the middle of the fairway. The hole is so short that despite a slightly shorter tee shot, you can easily attack the green with your second shot.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee But woe betide you, you are too ambitious. Then you can easily write a double-digit result on your card in stroke play (my “record” is a 15, at the club championship of all places…).
From The Fairway The drive must be hit in a controlled and relaxed manner in the middle of the fairway. With a stronger slice, the bushes on the right come into play, with an uncontrolled draw or even hook, the tee shot inevitably ends up in the bunker or even out of bounds on the left.
On The Green Be careful with the second shot. If you top, the ball shoots into the moat. If you push, the ball lands in the inconspicuous group of bushes on the right.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee A very long par 4 for the amateur, where if in doubt you should play for bogey right from the start.
From The Fairway The tee shot is actually very nice, the fairway is wide. Nevertheless, many amateurs end up driving right into the bushes or out of bounds on the left because they use far too much force to, as they believe, “gain yardage” due to the length of the track.
On The Green The second shot is very demanding. The fairway bunkers on the left and right are exactly in the landing zone of many amateurs. The green bunkers come into play easily on very long shots with 3-wood or 5-wood.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot requires a straight shot with a 3 or 5 wood. If you can't do that, you should play safely and settle for a bogey. That's perfectly fine on this track.
From The Fairway Be careful when teeing off: don't push to the right towards the hill, as there is a risk of deeper rough. And be particularly careful about a pull to the left. You can hardly find a ball there in the bushes.
On The Green When it's harvest time, you can taste one of the apples from the trees on the right. They really taste like they come from the country.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee is one of the most beautiful in Semlin am See. If you manage to get the ball past the oak tree in the middle of the fairway, it gives you a special feeling of achievement.
From The Fairway On the second shot you just have to be careful not to go too far to the right, because there is a risk of rough and bunkers.
On The Green If you are in the rough near the green, I recommend a putt chip as a safe shot onto the green. Don't you know how it works? Ask your trainer, it's worth it.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee This hole was previously rated, not without reason, as the most difficult hole in Semlin am See. If the drive is just a little imprecise, you will inevitably end up in one of the fairway bunkers.
From The Fairway If this happens (and this is the case in 50% of my drives), you definitely have to hold back and hit the fairway solidly with a maximum of a 7 iron.
On The Green Be careful if you hit the second shot to the right of the fairway. The soil is usually slightly sandy. You therefore have to hit the ball very precisely.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee There are a variety of dangers lurking - the rough and the deep green bunker on the right, but especially the water on the left.
From The Fairway Only one thing helps here: align yourself particularly carefully, visualize the target and swing in a relaxed manner. Then it works.
On The Green If you land in the sandy area to the right of the tee, which happens to a surprising number of players, then make sure you make particularly clean contact with the ball.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee The fairway is actually so wide that the drive shouldn't cause any problems - provided you hit with momentum and not with force.
From The Fairway But for once on this hole you can't hit straight in the middle of the fairway. Because that's where the mighty oak tree stands, which can be found stylized on the Semlin logo. She is a real obstacle. Apparently a tree consists of 95% air.
On The Green However, this oak tree in the middle of the track obviously isn't, as evidenced by the many small pieces of branches that you can find under this tree every day.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee It is not for nothing that it is the most difficult track. Dangers lurk everywhere: water, ditches, bushes, sandy wasteland. But if you keep a cool head and swing freely, you can defeat this monster.
From The Fairway The second blow is seductive. If you hit a good shot, you tend to exaggerate and try to hit the green from 160 m, for example. But this train doesn't forgive that. You quickly find yourself in the dirt, in the sand or even on the left in the trees.
On The Green So curb your ego, present wisely, chip or pitch cleanly onto the green and then see the astonished eyes of your fellow players when you hole out with a putt (the green is dead straight!).
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee At this track you can find a large number of balls every day that have landed in the water ditch on the right or in the forest. Even good players seem to be magnetically attracted to this right side or compensate for their fear of a shot there by overswinging to the left - and the ball ends up in the water on the left.
From The Fairway But: the fairway is really wide enough for a solid tee shot. Forget the obstacles, choose a target in the middle of the fairway and swing there relaxed.
On The Green Actually, the second shot is the bigger challenge. The entrance to the green is relatively narrow, the water regularly comes into play on the left and I know the bunker on the right very well. But if the second shot is successful, you can move on to the next lane with your chest puffed out with pride. They made a good start to the second nine.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee Anyone who messes up the tee here has themselves to blame. Because the fairway is huge. You just have to aim forward in the middle of the forest.
From The Fairway The challenge on this track is the second shot. You have to be able to get past the fairway bunker on the left, which was placed in exactly the right place by course architect Christoph Städler at the 100 meters mark.
On The Green But don't overdo it with the left tendency - otherwise you'll quickly find the ball in the wooded area on the left - or not. If you end up in the fallow-like area to the right of the fairway, you have to be very careful again. If in doubt, we recommend a safe shot back onto the fairway,
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee But you can see good players here hitting the right into the cyclist's path. Or who regularly visit the right green bunker. Or please the obviously ball-loving lake on the left.
From The Fairway But seriously: with this track it's all about self-confidence and correct visualization. This is how you get to the green.
On The Green The real fun then begins. Because hole 12 is the green with the strongest breaks in Semlin am See. If the ball is on the side of the hole, you can only guess: stop half a meter higher than you think - then, with God's help, your putt might end up close to the hole.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee Here you have to aim precisely in the middle between the trees and hit a slight draw. But please don't overdo it and pull the punch to the left.
From The Fairway Strangely enough, the trees on the left rarely turn out to be permeable. Normally, if you hit too hard to the left, you will find your ball lying in the rough, in the bushes or unplayable under branches - or not at all.
On The Green It is therefore important to prepare carefully for this shot, to feel the shot and to execute it without much tension.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee Actually, the ditch in the middle isn't that wide. But the fairway to the left of it slopes so strongly to the right that if you hit the shot with a fade and it's not bad at all, you'll still end up in the water.
From The Fairway There's only one thing that helps here: when teeing off, aim towards the bunker on the left edge of the fairway and release your arms during the backswing. Then the landing zone is wide enough.
On The Green Experts hit the tee to the right of the ditch - but even great experts often find their ball in the forest. Even if they hit the fairway, the second shot is not necessarily easier than that of the competitor who hit conservatively and solidly to the left side.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee The second shot poses no problems as long as you don't veer straight left into the fairway bunker.
From The Fairway With the third shot you have to take your time, align yourself carefully and visualize well. Then you will be rewarded with par or even birdie.
On The Green
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee Before you hit: Enjoy the wonderful view of hole 16, which is regularly voted one of the ten most beautiful holes in Germany. Hear the little birds chirping and see how the treetops move. You will then be much more relaxed when hitting the tee.
From The Fairway Because now you can really hit the green. Anyone can hit 115 m straight.
On The Green
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee Let's hope that we have the tailwind that is common on this track in Semlin am See. Then there is a chance to master this track, which is long for the normal amateur, with a low score.
From The Fairway The fairway is so wide that we can really hit the driver. Just don't push or press, otherwise bunkers, rough or water will come into play on the right.
On The Green Then just keep playing as best you can. There are no strategic obstacles on this railway.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee Don't grip too tightly and let the center of your body drive the momentum - not with your hands, forearms or shoulders. If you can do this, you will be rewarded with a doable approach shot to the island green.
From The Fairway However, if you use too much power, you will usually find your ball in the rough to the right of the fairway. And from there, believe me, it's better to deliver in a controlled manner and not attempt a hara-kiri shot on the green.
On The Green If you are lying at a feasible distance, you should proceed with a cool head. The green is slightly elevated, so it basically requires one more club.
