Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The opening hole on the C course demands all of our golfing skills and abilities.
From The Fairway If you have courage and confidence, you can hit a draw into the left half of the fairway and then have a shorter approach shot. However, with this shot the risk of landing on the left in the water is relatively high.
On The Green On the other hand, there is plenty of space to the right of the bunker in the middle of the fairway. If you manage a long drive, you can easily attack the green from there.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee The landing zone between the fairway bunker in the middle and the rough on the left is relatively narrow. So the drive has to be very precise.
From The Fairway An alternative is to hit to the right of the bunker. But don't overdo it: if you push too hard to the right, the ball goes out of bounds and then you usually hear the dog barking angrily in the neighbor's garden.
On The Green The second shot is a feat: water and a deep greenside bunker lurk on the left. And if you hit the ball just a little too long, you'll be dismayed to see it bounce slightly backwards down into the water. Because for whatever reason, this green is pretty hard.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee This hole is so long that I have never seen a player hit the green with their second shot. But even with three shots, the green is difficult for the normal amateur to reach.
From The Fairway The tee shot is still relatively easy - unless you turn right into the vetches or left into the water. But even the second blow requires precise calculation. How can you get as close as possible to the ditch that crosses the fairway without hitting the ball.
On The Green Experience shows that as a normal amateur it is best to play this course for bogey. Then you won't have any major problems.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee If you're thirsty for par after the strenuous first three holes of the C course: now is the good opportunity. However, be careful not to rush into anything, carefully follow the preshot routine and aim more to the left of the center of the green.
From The Fairway
On The Green Because the green bunker on the right comes into play very easily if the tee shot is hit inaccurately and tends to the right. And then the longed-for par is usually over - unless you master bunker shots like the legendary Gary Player...
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee As soon as you take a breath, the next big challenge comes. This track, which is rated as the most difficult on the C course, has it all.
From The Fairway The drive landing zone for the longer tee players is quite narrow. The water on the left comes into play more often than you would like.
On The Green On the other hand, if you hit too far to the right, you end up in the rough and the small trees and the fairway bunkers on the right suddenly start to get in the way.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Only one thing counts here: tee off straight. To do this, carefully follow your preshot routine, carefully look for a target point in the middle of the fairway and swing there with relaxed arms. It works.
From The Fairway The second tee is also something for experts: if you hit too much to the left, you will find the ball in the greenside bunker.
On The Green If you push too hard to the right, you can look for the ball in the deep grass between the trees - and if in doubt you won't find it. With the second shot there is only one thing that matters: hit straight.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee After all the effort, one would think that course architect Christoph Städler would allow some relaxation on a par 3.
From The Fairway But far from it. Now our nerves are really being challenged. We absolutely have to cut straight through a relatively narrow path. Because believe me, if you move the ball just slightly to the left or right into the forest, you will only find it under the leaves, twigs and small ground plants in half the cases.
On The Green So here's some honest advice: If you're not entirely sure and don't have enough balls in reserve, tame your ego and hit loosely and straight with your favorite iron or a small hybrid.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee No offense to Christoph Städler. You would kindly allow us to have a slightly easier tee-off at this hole. You just have to be careful not to drive into the right fairway bunker.
From The Fairway But the break is only short. Because now comes a treacherous second blow. There is water threatening on the left and a fairway bunker on the right, which we have to get close to if we want to have a passable shot onto the raised green, but from which the shot onto the green is very difficult.
On The Green Be careful with this shot on the green. Like the green on hole 20, it is so hard that the balls roll significantly further after impact than you expected.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot is again not easy if you have a right-wing tendency in your drives. The ball ends up all too easily in the water on the right or in the fairway bunker.
From The Fairway If, to be on the safe side, you aim a little more to the left and release your arms and hands nicely in the backswing, you will be rewarded with an astonishing length of drive. Because at this point you regularly have support from a nice tailwind.
On The Green The second shot is again something for experts. The entrance to the green between the deep green bunker on the left and the water on the right is narrow.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee A bit of a challenge at the beginning of the round, especially when people are curiously watching you in the tournament. Because this train is not without danger.
From The Fairway Players with a higher handicap must pay attention to the out-of-bounds boundary and the bunker landscape on the right, players with a lower handicap must pay attention to the moat and the rough on the left.
On The Green My advice: It's better to slow down and hit the tee shot safely into the middle of the fairway. The hole is so short that despite a slightly shorter tee shot, you can easily attack the green with your second shot.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee But woe betide you, you are too ambitious. Then you can easily write a double-digit result on your card in stroke play (my “record” is a 15, at the club championship of all places…).
From The Fairway The drive must be hit in a controlled and relaxed manner in the middle of the fairway. With a stronger slice, the bushes on the right come into play, with an uncontrolled draw or even hook, the tee shot inevitably ends up in the bunker or even out of bounds on the left.
On The Green Be careful with the second shot. If you top, the ball shoots into the moat. If you push, the ball lands in the inconspicuous group of bushes on the right.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee A very long par 4 for the amateur, where if in doubt you should play for bogey right from the start.
From The Fairway The tee shot is actually very nice, the fairway is wide. Nevertheless, many amateurs end up driving right into the bushes or out of bounds on the left because they use far too much force to, as they believe, “gain yardage” due to the length of the track.
On The Green The second shot is very demanding. The fairway bunkers on the left and right are exactly in the landing zone of many amateurs. The green bunkers come into play easily on very long shots with 3-wood or 5-wood.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot requires a straight shot with a 3 or 5 wood. If you can't do that, you should play safely and settle for a bogey. That's perfectly fine on this track.
From The Fairway Be careful when teeing off: don't push to the right towards the hill, as there is a risk of deeper rough. And be particularly careful about a pull to the left. You can hardly find a ball there in the bushes.
On The Green When it's harvest time, you can taste one of the apples from the trees on the right. They really taste like they come from the country.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee is one of the most beautiful in Semlin am See. If you manage to get the ball past the oak tree in the middle of the fairway, it gives you a special feeling of achievement.
From The Fairway On the second shot you just have to be careful not to go too far to the right, because there is a risk of rough and bunkers.
On The Green If you are in the rough near the green, I recommend a putt chip as a safe shot onto the green. Don't you know how it works? Ask your trainer, it's worth it.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee This hole was previously rated, not without reason, as the most difficult hole in Semlin am See. If the drive is just a little imprecise, you will inevitably end up in one of the fairway bunkers.
From The Fairway If this happens (and this is the case in 50% of my drives), you definitely have to hold back and hit the fairway solidly with a maximum of a 7 iron.
On The Green Be careful if you hit the second shot to the right of the fairway. The soil is usually slightly sandy. You therefore have to hit the ball very precisely.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee There are a variety of dangers lurking - the rough and the deep green bunker on the right, but especially the water on the left.
From The Fairway Only one thing helps here: align yourself particularly carefully, visualize the target and swing in a relaxed manner. Then it works.
On The Green If you land in the sandy area to the right of the tee, which happens to a surprising number of players, then make sure you make particularly clean contact with the ball.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee The fairway is actually so wide that the drive shouldn't cause any problems - provided you hit with momentum and not with force.
From The Fairway But for once on this hole you can't hit straight in the middle of the fairway. Because that's where the mighty oak tree stands, which can be found stylized on the Semlin logo. She is a real obstacle. Apparently a tree consists of 95% air.
On The Green However, this oak tree in the middle of the track obviously isn't, as evidenced by the many small pieces of branches that you can find under this tree every day.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee It is not for nothing that it is the most difficult track. Dangers lurk everywhere: water, ditches, bushes, sandy wasteland. But if you keep a cool head and swing freely, you can defeat this monster.
From The Fairway The second blow is seductive. If you hit a good shot, you tend to exaggerate and try to hit the green from 160 m, for example. But this train doesn't forgive that. You quickly find yourself in the dirt, in the sand or even on the left in the trees.
On The Green So curb your ego, present wisely, chip or pitch cleanly onto the green and then see the astonished eyes of your fellow players when you hole out with a putt (the green is dead straight!).
