Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The ideal teeshot for an average hitter would be to place the ball as close to the right side of the fairway as you dare, avoiding a large tree. This provides a view up the green for a short to medium iron.
From The Fairway Stay straight and a par or better is within easy reach. However, danger lurks off this narrow Fairway with trees on both sides and well positioned bunkers on the left. Wander into the trees and a six is just as easy.
On The Green The green is gently contoured and protected by a selection of bunkers on the front left and to both the left and right side.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway The drive is straightforward - be on the fairway and long. Trees lining each side ensure that anything too wayward is punished.
On The Green The green is protected right front by a bunker and left by a lake.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee The approach is the real test. The distance is correct but take at least one more club - the wind and elevation are working against you.
From The Fairway The drive is wrought with trouble up to about 200 metres then the fairway opens up with 250 plenty of landing area.
On The Green The sloping green is protected front right and back left with bunkers. Reading putts can be entertaining.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee Par isn't too much trouble, but you'll work for better.
From The Fairway The fairway is lined with firs, although they really shouldn't come into play.
On The Green The large green is protected with bunkers left and right front plus 2 pot bunkers at back of green.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee The green is protected by a bunker short and right, and a steep decline at the back. Again some entertaining reads on this putting surface.
From The Fairway The fairway turns at about 200 metres from the tee around a large tree.
On The Green The ideal drive will fade through the turn and leave no more than a wedge home. For us mere mortals though, aim at the line of firs lining the far side of the fairway. Not too much trouble out here and invariabialy a shot to the green.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee The approach is compliacted only by the fact that the ball is invariabially above your feet - aim a little right.
From The Fairway Drive at the right side of the fairway and the natural contours will centre the ball for you.
On The Green The green is protected by a bunker front right and a large bunker flanking the left side.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee A challenging hole for golfers of all levels.
From The Fairway The player is faced with a tee shot from an elevated position to a green, heavily protected by bunkers on both the left and right side.
On The Green With the green sloping from back to front and a ridge being formed from each of these bunkers toward the centre, a straight putt here is a rarity.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee A long line of deciduous trees and out of bounds all down the right side and a line of Pine trees down the left border the hole.
From The Fairway With rough creeping in about 15 metres from both tree lines, hitting the fairway from the raised tee position is a must to have a chance of reaching the green in two.
On The Green The green itself slopes severely from back to front and left to right and is protected by bunkers left and right
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee Anything to the right of the fairway and the player is limited severely by the tree on the right of the gap. A second shot through the gap is best aimed down the right side of the fairway to leave an approach that avoids the large bunker that protects the green to the front left.
From The Fairway From the gap the fairway slopes downhill to the green. With out of bounds and 2 bunkers on the right, the best line from the tee is the oak tree on the left.
On The Green The green is a raised plateau with contouring on the right side formed by the only other bunker by the green, a deep trap on the right side.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee An aesthetes delight, the tenth presents a panoramic view of the Liffey Valley from the top of the south bank.
From The Fairway Long left is sand and water, right is sand and trees, be on or short. A par here is no disgrace.
On The Green The green set a couple of hundred feet below. From the tee it looks like water, sand and a little green. Put the nerves aside and hit the shot. Short is no prO-Blem.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee A magnificent hole sweeping along the banks of the Liffey, meandering from tee to green in a right to left dog leg. Any score is possible here.
From The Fairway The Liffey is in play on all three shots. Perspective for second shot from the centre of fairway is discouraging - all that can be seen is sand.
On The Green Green elevated on left and well protected short and pin high by series of large bunkers.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee Blind tee shot from Liffey bank up to fairway plateau.
From The Fairway Long second to green protected short right and left by large bunkers. Be long rather than short with second shot.
On The Green A large tree left at about 200 is the line of the green. Be as close right to this tree for best approach.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee The layout of the green has a mound on each side which can influence chips and putts that encounter them.
From The Fairway The fairway is bordered on the left by a densely wooded slope and on the right by a row of trees.
On The Green The green rises gently from the fairway with bunkers on left and right.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee The wooded slope along the left side of the 13th hole comes as far as this incline on the left side. There is out of bounds all of the way along the right side of this hole.
From The Fairway The drive, therefore, must clear the sharp incline first in order to reach the plateau where the fairway is. The fairway is bordered by rough on both sides so the drive needs to be fairly central. Once over the incline, the green becomes visible on rising ground in the distance.
On The Green The second shot needs to carry to the green because the slope up to it will kill any shot that lands short. The green rises from the front and becomes saucer shape after that.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A line of tall poplar trees are on the left and several smaller trees on both sides in the rough. The fairway is narrow at first but opens out where the drive should land. The second shot is through the gap and up a gently rising but narrowing fairway with trees and rough on both sides.
On The Green The green has deep bunkers to catch the wayward shot going left or right. It is a tiered green, the left half is lower than the right and the whole green inclines upwards from the front to a bank at the back.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee A straight, demanding hole setting off up hill, battling against contour, even the longest of drives will leave a blind 2nd shot to the green. The last 50 metres of the fairway, from the top of the hill down to the green falls away to the right, allowing the only bunker on the hole to the right of the green to catch any wayward or short approaches.
From The Fairway Therefore the approach should be played along the line of the left edge of the fairway
On The Green The green slopes from the back to the front and slightly from left to right.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway As the fairway slopes uncomfortably across the line of the drive, the tee shot should be played down the left side using the poplar trees as a line to avoid the grass meadow and small trees on the right. Any drive to the right will require a blind approach coming over trees. Too far left and another grass meadow awaits.
On The Green The green, lying 50 feet below the highest point of the fairway and just across the road, slopes from back to front and is guarded by two bunkers on the left and one on the right.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A pair of bunkers are located on the left side of the fairway to catch any wayward drives. With a large copse of trees down the right side, the safe tee shot is down the left side of the fairway.
On The Green However the more aggressive play down the right side is rewarded with a better approach to the green. With Out of bounds at the back of the green, club selection for the approach shot is vital.
