Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The view down to the green is framed by 60 year old hoop pine trees, and it’s surprising how many times the ball seems to be attracted to them!
From The Fairway If you can negotiate the pines then you will have to contend with out of bounds down the left hand side of the fairway. If it’s early summer and the cane hasn’t been harvested, forget about looking for your ball. Leave it for the farmer and the snakes!
On The Green The safer route down the right hand side brings the trees into play and also the greenside bunker.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee The fairway opens up after about 220 metres and is straight, flat and wide. But there is out of bounds all along the left hand side of the fairways, and tall trees along the right hand side.
From The Fairway With a good drive the green is reachable in two and there is a good gap between the two fairway bunkers are about thirty metres in front of the green.
On The Green The green is 25 metres long, 12 metres wide, and slopes gently from back to front and left to right.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee The hole is a slight dog-leg right. The fairway slopes uphill to the 150 metre mark, then downhill to the green.
From The Fairway The sharp downhill slope on the fairway means that any tee shot hit with a slice to the middle of the fairway will run downhill into the tree line, where the big fig on the corner will block any second shot into the green.
On The Green The safe tee shot, high up on the left hand side of the fairway, brings into play a fairway bunker 15 metres in front of the green on the left hand side.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee Named after the cluster of cork trees on the right hand side of the fairway. One particular tree used to swallow lots of balls until it was removed by a (now –ex) member with a chainsaw.
From The Fairway The fairway is narrow, tree-lined on both sides, and slopes downhill and left to the green. Go over the trees to the right with your tee shot and you risk going out of bounds. Ditto if you hit it too long.
On The Green The smallish, narrow green is fast & true, with a slight downhill slope into the bunker running along its left hand side.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee The fairway slopes downhill to the corner of the dog leg, then is flat through to the slightly-elevated green. From the men’s tee, hard against the left hand side of the fairway, the fairway appears to be quite narrow, and directs you to the trees on the right hand corner.
From The Fairway The best shot, over the top of the ladies tee, brings the bamboos (and out of bounds) into play. Block your tee shot left and you could create an exciting moment or two for the motorists coming up Goodwood Road!
On The Green For the adventurous, you can try hitting over the trees on the right hand side, then playing a wedge over the trees on to the green. Bon chance!
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee This is a pretty hole—named after the palms which surround the green, and stand in front of the out of bounds markers!. Not to mention the ancient figtree on the right.
From The Fairway The fairway is flat through to the slightly-elevated green with a bunker running along its right hand side.
On The Green It’s fast, undulating, and with a steep downhill slope to the middle of the green. Be prepared for three putts if you charge your first!
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A much safer option is to play an iron off the tee down the left hand side and let the slope take your shot into the middle of the fairway.
On The Green The green is fast, with a downhill slope to the ridge running across the middle of the green, then a steep slope to the front of the green. Beware the bunker at the front left of the green. The smart second shot is to the front of the green, below the hole.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s long, the fairways are fairly narrow, they slope downhill to the right, and both sides of the fairway are lined with tall trees.
From The Fairway There are no easy ways to play this hole. Big hitters will be tempted to cut the corner, but, again, caveat emptor! If you play a controlled draw then aim straight up the fairway and let the draw and the slope take you around the corner.
On The Green If you’re not confident about your accuracy, take a thee wood or a long iron off the tee, and be prepared to play another of them for your second shot.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s reasonably long, it doglegs right after about 150 metres, there is out of bounds all along the left hand side of the fairway, the fairway slopes downhill to the right, and both sides of the fairway are lined with tall trees.
From The Fairway The best part about this hole is the green. It’s fairly big (by Isis standards), it’s flat and it generally putts true.
On The Green Your approach shot to the green should be to the left hand side. Aim to the right and you will generally slide off down the hill into the trees. Be careful you don’t over hit your approach shot- the out of bounds is only 5 to 10 metres behind the green.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee From the back of the tenth tee the view to the green is dominated by the hoop pine trees in front of the tee. The extra club needed lowers the trajectory of your shot, bringing the trees on the right hand side of the fairway more into play, and the extra time in the air gives the ball more time to play tricks.
From The Fairway If you can negotiate the pines then you will have to contend with out of bounds all down the left hand side of the fairway. If it’s early summer and the cane hasn’t been harvested, forget about looking for your ball. Leave it for the farmer and the brown snakes!
On The Green The safer route down the right hand side brings the trees into play- and there’s one about a hundred metres down which overhangs the fairway and is also a ball magnet. The right hand side route also brings the greenside bunker into play.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee The fairway opens up after about 180 metres and is straight, flat and wide. But there is out of bounds all along the left hand side of the fairways, and tall trees along the right hand side.
From The Fairway With a good drive the green is reachable in two and there is a good gap between the two fairway bunkers which are about thirty metres in front of the green.
On The Green The green is 25 metres long, 12 metres wide, and slopes gently from back to front and left to right.
Hole 12
Hole 13
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee If you are satisfied with a par then the safe route down the middle of the wide fairway is the way to go.
From The Fairway Big hitters, though, will be tempted to drive over the trees on the right hand corner. Success means a good chance for a birdie.
On The Green The green is flat, fast & true, with a slight downhill slope from the back to the front of the green.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee Big hitters will be tempted to drive this one for an eagle - but it’s an easy par for the cool-headed.
From The Fairway The fairway is flat through to the slightly-elevated green with a bunker running along its right hand side.
On The Green It’s fast, undulating, and with a steep downhill slope to the middle of the green. Be prepared for three puts if you charge your first!
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee Big hitters will be tempted to cut the corner, but for the average player the centre is always best.
From The Fairway A much safer option is to play an iron off the tee down the left hand side and let the slope take your shot into the middle of the fairway.
On The Green Over hit your tee shot and you will have the massive fig on the left hand corner to contend with.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s still fairly long, the fairways are narrow, sloping downhill to the left with both sides of the fairway lined with tall trees.
From The Fairway But big hitters will now find it much easier to cut the corner, and a drive of two hundred metres plus will comfortably get you around the corner.
On The Green Don’t forget- the green is fast, with a downhill slope to the front of the green. The smart approach shot is to the left front of the green, below the hole.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee An extra dozen or so metres makes a surprising amount of difference to this hole. You hit off from underneath a beautiful, old fig tree through a narrow channel between the trees.
From The Fairway If you can manage a reasonably long tee shot down the middle it’s not hard to make a par.
On The Green And now to the nineteenth for a post mortem and a refreshing ale!
