Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee A challenging opening hole, not too long but demanding an accurate tee shot and with a narrow entrance to
From The Fairway the green, which is most easily found from left side of the fairway. An approach from the right side of the fairway could do worse than to find the gully just to the left of the green, from where an up and down can be made.
On The Green the green, which is most easily found from left side of the fairway. An approach from the right side of the fairway could do worse than to find the gully just to the left of the green, from where an up and down can be made.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A straight and shortish par 4 with a generous fairway.
On The Green Another green guarded at the front, this time by bunkers on either side. A good drive can set up an early birdie opportunity, but take note of the pin position when aiming your tee shot to open up the approach to the hole. Look out for the unusual tree, a Columbian pine to the left just off the tee.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee A strong par three of almost 200 yards, demanding an accurate tee shot which must carry the central fairway bunker to have a chance of reaching the green
From The Fairway
On The Green . Missing the green either side will leave a tricky up and down from either clingy rough or one of the bunkers which again guard the entrance to the green on either side. This hole is kindly sponsored by A&B Taxis
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee Possibly the most difficult hole on the course, 1 yard shy of a par 5 and a slight right to left dog leg.
From The Fairway Tees left and right demand fairly straight hitting to keep the ball in the fairway
On The Green . Longer hitters will be in with a chance of reaching in two, and must avoid more greenside bunkers which surround this green. For many this will be three shots or more and a good approach strategy is to lay up short of the fairway bunker near the green to leave a simpler approach.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A partially blind tee shot, having to hit over a large fairway bunker, to a green surrounded by more bunkers.
On The Green Look out for the pin position as you walk up the 4th fairway to help you choose your club. One of the larger greens on the Island, but a good tee shot to the middle of the green will never be very far away from the flag. This hole is kindly sponsored by One Call Ltd https://onecall-ltd.co.uk/
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway The stump of a large, old oak tree sits in the rough on the left side of the fairway, and there is a hidden fairway bunker on the right.
On The Green Not a long par 4 and can be a birdie opportunity with two good shots. The two tier green narrows in the middle, squeezed by a bunker on either side. It widens front and back, and can present some long and very awkward putts.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee A short par 4 presenting a birdie opportunity.
From The Fairway A straight tee shot will leave a relatively straightforward approach. Longer hitters might gamble on getting close from the tee, but might also do well to lag up where the fairway is wider between the two sets of fairway bunkers, and leave a fuller approach.
On The Green
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee A long, straight par 5 with trees left and right.
From The Fairway There are fairway bunkers about 200 yards from the tee and another just short of the green.
On The Green The approach to the green narrows in the last 50 yards or so, and again it can be a wise move to play up short of the fairway bunker and leave a simple approach shot to the green.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee One of the best holes on the island, a long risk reward par
From The Fairway 4 with a ditch across the fairway just short of the green. A long drive will present an opportunity to
On The Green take on the second shot to a larger green but this will be out of range for most. Laying up short of the ditch leaves a straightforward approach that always plays a little bit longer then it looks. This hole is kindly sponsored by Mark MacDonald (Joiner & Contractor) Stanley.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A straight par 4 with a generous fairway which slopes slightly upwards from the tee.
On The Green A centre or left of centre line will avoid the trees which begin to encroach slightly onto the fairway on the right. The green is one of the longer ones and slopes away from you, from front to back, which can make the approach slightly deceptive.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway Another risk reward par 4. A ditch runs across the fairway at around 200 yards from the medal tee with fairway bunkers left and right about 30 to 40 yards short of it.
On The Green A choice to lag up or go for it for some. The approach to the green is blind, hitting over the flood bank to a green about 40-50 yards beyond, which is wider than it is long. There is a catchment area between the bank and the green which can be a good place to aim for if the green is just out of reach. One of the strongest holes on the course.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee A short par 4, but another risk reward hole.
From The Fairway The green can be taken on from the tee, and has a very narrow entrance guarded by bunkers and rough. A lay up off the tee will need to be long enough to carry the ditch about 150 yards from the tee, accurate enough to avoid the fairway bunkers and on the best side of the fairway to leave a shot at the flag. There are many 3s at this hole, and also many 5s or worse.
On The Green The green can be taken on from the tee, and has a very narrow entrance guarded by bunkers and rough. A lay up off the tee will need to be long enough to carry the ditch about 150 yards from the tee, accurate enough to avoid the fairway bunkers and on the best side of the fairway to leave a shot at the flag. There are many 3s at this hole, and also many 5s or worse.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee Another partially blind par 3,
From The Fairway this time hitting over the flood bank to a long and fairly wide green. An old hawthorn tree guards the back right hand corner of the green.
On The Green The green slopes upwards from front to back and there are some tricky borrows, but again a tee shot to the middle of the green will never be very far away from the flag.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee Not the longest par 4 but usually into the prevailing wind.
From The Fairway A slight left to right dog leg from the medal tees, demanding an accurate tee shot to the fairway which sits slightly above the green.
On The Green With the slight slope and the wind, this can be a difficult approach to judge, and you will often need to take account of more than just the bare yardage to work it out. The two tier green can present some challenging putts. There is a premium on getting your distance right to leave a putt on the same level as the hole. This hole is kindly sponsored by The Blue Book Boys.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee A short par 4 from the white and red tees, and a long par 3 from the yellows.
From The Fairway
On The Green The two tier green is wide and surrounded by bunkers, but this hole can be a good birdie opportunity.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee A shortish par 5 off the white tees, and a 4 from the yellows. A par 5 also from the reds.
From The Fairway A dog leg right to left with fairway bunkers on the left and the right. An accurate drive is required to find the fairway and from the yellow tees in particular the length of second varies significantly depending on the direction of the drive.
On The Green Again the entrance to the green is narrow and protected either side by bunkers, so it can be wise to play up short.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee A medium length par 3 demanding an accurate tee shot.
From The Fairway
On The Green Bunkers surround the front of the green and there is rough all around. Not the largest green, again a middle of the green strategy will never be very far away from the pin. A feature of the hole is the row of copper-leafed maples behind the green.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee A very strong par 4 to finish. Demands 2 well hit shots to reach the green,
From The Fairway especially into the wind or if the fairways are wet. For most though, this will be three shots or more avoiding the fairway bunkers right and left.
On The Green A large green to aim at with the approach, and only one greenside bunker to contend with. The green is overlooked by the clubhouse and has been the scene of many a tight match play finish.
