Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee A gentle opening par 4 reachable in one by the longer hitters, who must gamble with protective bunkers in front of the green.
From The Fairway Play to the left hand side of the fairway for a short chip in avoiding the left hand bunker and the chance to open with a birdie.
On The Green
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A short 4 which requires a well placed tee shot to the right of the lone tree to open up the green (a driver is too much for longer hitters as it will run out of fairway).
On The Green Watch out for the two large firs to the left hand side and don’t fade it either as you will be behind three mature trees to the right hand side of the fairway.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee The first of six par 3’s and an uphill shot where distance is everything.
From The Fairway
On The Green A generous green is protected at the front by challenging bunkers and at the back by a tricky grass bunker.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee Like most holes at Llanishen good position from the tee will be rewarded - play your drive to the left of the big tree to access a plateau green protected by a single bunker in front.
From The Fairway
On The Green The very big hitter can reach the green or play to the right of the tree, but it’s not recommended for the average golfer.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee A straight drive through an avenue of trees must avoid the single tree in the fairway.
From The Fairway Longer hitters will get past the tree but for the shorter hitter you need to play left or right. An uphill second shot to a tiered green makes it worthwhile to check the pin position for the day before you leave the tee.
On The Green
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Another reachable par 4 for the big hitter who can play over the trees on the right.
From The Fairway For the average golfer the left hand side of the fairway allows a shot in to one of the trickier greens - assess the slopes carefully to avoid the dreaded three putt!
On The Green
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee A straightforward par 3 from the forward tees and a real challenge from the back.
From The Fairway
On The Green Pulled shots end in the left hand trees and a slice may run a long way down the right hand bank, so keep it straight. Bunkers protect the green left and right.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway One of the longer par 4’s. Play to the left hand side of the fairway for the easiest approach - too much on the right hand side and fir trees may block your route to the green.
On The Green On the tee take the time to enjoy the views over Cardiff and across the Channel.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway
On The Green A demanding par 3. The green slopes sharply to the left and also towards the front so make sure you have enough club. Put it close and a birdie calls - if you are not close you will be in 3 putt territory.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee A risk and reward par 5 reachable in 2 with a good drive and brave blind second down the hill.
From The Fairway A pulled shot left of the road will be O-B. Trees protect the hole to left and right and distance control is crucial if you go for it in 2 - if you miss the bunkers behind the green the O-B line is not far behind, so take care.
On The Green A small bank protects the green from a running shot in. Do not play blind to the green until you hear the bell rung.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee A good par 3. You must hit it far enough to clear a small ditch running across the course and avoid the bunker to the right of the green.
From The Fairway
On The Green The tee shot will tend to run in a little from the right so watch for the slope to the front left of the green which will catch anything hit slightly left.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee One of the most challenging par 4’s you will ever play for even the top player. To get on in two the trees to the left must be carried preferably with draw.
From The Fairway A long straight shot will enter the fir tree plantation and a short drive will leave too long a second across a hazard area with multiple ditches.
On The Green For the safe option play to the right of the tree standing on the left, lay up short in two and hope for a good 3rd shot close to the hole!
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee Another uphill par 3 where distance control is important. Check the pin position before you play. Bunkers protect the green to the left and the tier in the green can be a putting challenge.
From The Fairway
On The Green If the pin is on the back plateau the target is a very small one and you risk running off the back so a safer shot may be to the far right hand side of the green, but you won’t get a birdie that way!
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee Wait for the bell before driving. A good drive over the marker post will allow the longest hitters to reach in 2.
From The Fairway The fairway slopes sharply left to right so for the shorter hitter make sure you get far enough left to avoid the trees on the right.
On The Green A long grass ditch to the left and short of the green will stop you running the ball in so a pitch is required. Take care with distance as anything too long will run off the back or right hand side and down the banking!
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A good uphill par 4 to a plateau green. No bunkers to worry about and a longer drive will get you onto a flatter bit of fairway. Once again trees to left and right will catch errant tee shots.
On The Green
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway
On The Green Make sure the 9th tee is clear before playing to this great little par 3 protected by bunkers both left and right. There’s not much room behind the green so take care not to over club.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee A testing par 4 where the drive needs to be a good one to give you the chance of reaching the green in regulation.
From The Fairway The left hand side of the fairway is better to avoid the group of trees short and right of the green, but watch out for the fairway bunkers to the left which will catch a pulled tee shot.
On The Green Bunkers protect the green left and right and you also need to get past a long slope at the front of the green.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee A fun hole to finish where a birdie or even eagle is always a possibility. Stop to enjoy the view.
From The Fairway The green is driveable for many, and operates as a call through hole, but it needs to be an accurate drive or you will find one of the many bunkers both in the fairway and at green side.
On The Green A pulled or hooked tee shot will be OB so it’s another risk and reward hole. If you want to play safe lay up short of the bunkers. The green slopes from right to left so an approach from anywhere to the right hand side of the fairway is always very difficult to stop near the hole.
