Hole 1
Hole Name Totara
From The Tee A nice medium-length par 4 to start your round. Slight dogleg left. Ideal position for drive is right-hand side of fairway.
From The Fairway Drives along the left will be blocked from the green by the three Totara trees that are about 70 m from the green.
On The Green The green slopes from back to front and can be very fast in that direction, so best to leave the ball below the hole to avoid a 3 putt.
Hole 2
Hole Name Tarata
From The Tee A tricky par three due to the small green being well protected by swails in the surrounds. Therefore a high, soft-landing shot is required to set up a birdie chance. There are many subtle undulations in this green – read your putts carefully.

Hole 3
Hole Name Fantail
From The Tee A short par 4 that will reward you with an eagle opportunity with a perfect right-to-left drive.
From The Fairway It is definitely a risk/reward situation as there are out of bounds just beyond, a hazard just to the left before the green, along with two bunkers behind!
On The Green Pitches, chips or long putts can sometimes roll off the back or left if they are slightly heavy.
Hole 4
Hole Name Rimu
From The Tee A difficult par 3 with out of bounds to the left, the right and long! A high trajectory is needed to hold the green; however it is also possible for a shorter shot to run up on the green.
From The Fairway There are subtle breaks towards the front and left-hand side. A par here is a good score.
On The Green
Hole 5
Hole Name Manuka
From The Tee A unique short par 5 that is a double dogleg left. For the men a tee shot of about 170 metres that has a big right-to-left swing might leave you at the corner of the second dogleg with an easy shot to the green to set up an eagle.
From The Fairway Be careful in your shot selection, however. Many a drive has ended up out of bounds in the native bush to the left of the tee, and a straight drive might go through the fairway into the trees.
On The Green Some pundits advise hitting three short iron shots of 125 metres, and one putt for a birdie! Off the tee, aim for the Golden Totara and swing it left.
Hole 6
Hole Name The Grove
From The Tee Our most picturesque par three. An easy iron from an elevated tee to a large, receptive green. This is your best chance for a birdie 2 on the course.
From The Fairway Hit it straight as there is out of bounds on the left and a grove of native trees on the right.
On The Green The grove of trees protecting the front right of the green, contains many fine natives, including, Golden Totara, Kauris, Puriri and Lemonwood.
Hole 7
Hole Name Punga
From The Tee A reachable par 5 for the long hitters, but it will require a very accurate drive. The creek all along the left is a lateral hazard and the many large trees on the right will prove a prO-Blem in that direction.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green is receptive with a slight slope to the front. Be careful not to hit it over the green or you may end up in the creek!
Hole 8
Hole Name 8 Flax
From The Tee Another difficult par four. The large tree to the left of the tee forces a slight right-to-left drive, but don’t go too far left or you will be blocked from the green by more trees.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green is slightly elevated, and will hold a well hit iron. There are some subtle breaks on this green, particularly back to front.
Hole 9
Hole Name Paradise Ducks
From The Tee A nice par 5 to end the first nine holes. If you are a long hitter it is reachable in two.
From The Fairway
On The Green Hit it straight and long! The smallish green has plenty of breaks, so take your time to read your eagle or birdie putt. Good luck!
Hole 10
Hole Name Nikau Palm
From The Tee Another short par 4 with a risk/reward decision. Hit your tee shot high over the Kanuka with a slight left-to-right shape and you could be very close to ending up on the green.
From The Fairway But a slight miscalculation might result in an out of bounds to the right, or a shot from behind trees close to the 12th fairway. The safer play is a fairway wood or iron of about 175 metres leaving a short iron in. If you go too far right you might hit the big cabbage tree which is a short distance off the tee.
On The Green
Hole 11
Hole Name Cabbage Tree
From The Tee The longest par 5 on the course – it will take two very straight and long shots to get on this green in two. It is narrower than it appears, especially if you are tending away from the out of bounds that is all along the right-hand side.
From The Fairway
On The Green On your last shot to the green, avoid the left hand side, as shots there will often roll off the green to the left. Should be an easy par 5 if you can hit it straight!
Hole 12
Hole Name Kingfisher
From The Tee No question that most agree this is the toughest par 3 on the course. Some maintain it is the toughest hole, period. O-Bviously avoid out of bounds right. But be careful of a shot long left – it can easily go OO-B as well. A high, softly-landing shot just over the sand trap is in order – easier said than done.
From The Fairway
On The Green
Hole 13
Hole Name Pukeko
From The Tee A challenging par four dogleg to the right. Out of bounds to the right and lateral hazard to the left. Be careful not to hit a big drive straight or slightly left as you could end up in the hazard.
From The Fairway
On The Green The large green has a few subtle breaks. Make a birdie, and unless you are scratch, you will pick up 4 or more stableford points.
Hole 14
Hole Name Kahikatea
From The Tee A most beautiful setting for this par three as the green is set in an amphitheatre of native bush, including 4 more Kahikatea. The elevated green is quite receptive to a softly landing shot.
From The Fairway
On The Green Avoid going right or long as both will be out of bounds. The front half of the green breaks sharply to the front – be careful not to putt it off the green!
Hole 15
Hole Name Nature Pathway
From The Tee
From The Fairway A strong par four demanding a good drive in the left centre of the fairway. If you hit a wild drive to the right you may get lucky and clear the creek to end up on the seventh fairway.
On The Green You will have an interesting shot back to 16! It is best to avoid the small grove of trees on a raised plateau in front of the right side of the green, as it is a water hazard.
Hole 16
Hole Name Tui
From The Tee A challenging par 5 with plenty of trouble to avoid. An ideal tee shot is straight away avoiding the lateral hazard on the left and the trees separating 8 from 9.
From The Fairway
On The Green Then clear the creek on your second shot leaving a short iron or pitch to this large green. You will be much better off leaving your last shot to the green below the hole!
Hole 17
Hole Name Kauri
From The Tee An easy iron from an elevated tee to a large, receptive green. This is your best chance for a birdie 2 on the course. Hit it straight as there is out of bounds on the left and a grove of native trees on the right.

Hole 18
Hole Name Pohutakawa
From The Tee The thing to watch on this straightforward par three is placing your shot on the correct side of the green. A sizable ridge running front to back divides the green into two plateaus.
From The Fairway Be careful not to hit it long or you will end up in the creek or in the flax. As you cross the creek to the next tee, look for the pair of beautiful Nikau palms that are between the 11th and 8th tee boxes.
On The Green The Nikau is the southernmost palm tree in the world. It is very slow-growing. Research conducted in lowland forests near Auckland found it takes 40–50 years to begin to form a trunk and about 200 years to reach 10 metres tall.
