Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee A long and challenging starting hole that should be played with due consideration to ones’ abilities and the fact that it is the start of the round.
From The Fairway Large bunker guards the drive target area to the right directing the sensible player to play to the fairway just short of the hazard.
On The Green With the fairway sloping away to the left and a considerable narrowing in fairway width at the far point of the bunker, the chance of a very long drive ending on the fairway is slight.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee For all but the really long hitters, this hole will play as a true par 5 hole requiring 3 well placed shots to reach the green in regulation.
From The Fairway The slope down from the protective mound on the right of the tees tends to direct the suggested playline further left than is actually the case.
On The Green The player must beware of that as well as the small pond short and to the left of the drive target area.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee This is a classic risk and reward short par 5 hole. Following a good drive to the fairway, particularly the right hand side, the option of attempting to reach the green in two is presented.
From The Fairway The long iron or fairway wood shot must be very precise in length and direction otherwise the ball will finish in water to right and rear or in the guarding bunkers to the left of this line of approach.
On The Green For the second shot, the other two options are to lay-up to the very wide section of fairway short of the bunkers or play a long iron or rescue club to the wide section of fairway to the left of the guarding bunkers.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee This sharply right dogleg par 4 hole may be dramatically shortened by clearing the large dominant group of bunkers that guard the inner side of the dogleg but that is possible for only the very longest hitters.
From The Fairway The better way for most players to lessen their approach shot distance is to direct their drive as close as possible to the edge of the bunkers. The safer shot is to play a controlled draw starting on the line of the left edge of the bunkers and intended to finish mid-fairway.
On The Green From there, a well-executed short to mid-iron approach to the green should enable a par or birdie to be achieved. Swales and ridges in the undulating green will provide a severe test for long putts.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee Water encroaching close to both sides of the fairway near the drive target area will encourage precise driving or preferably the use of a three wood or utility club from the tee.
From The Fairway The stream crossing in front of the elevated green must be carefully considered by short hitters or by those who are playing an enforced recovery shot after a poor drive. It may be better to lay up short of the stream.
On The Green The large undulating green will test long putts and the precision of the approach shot as it is guarded on all sides by large and relatively deep bunkers.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee A long par 3 with a long green angled to the playline and guarded by large bunkers to the left front and right rear.
From The Fairway
On The Green There are difficult pin positions at the left rear of the putting surface whereas the front right half of the green is particularly accessible.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Tee shots are over a relatively short water carry to a wide fairway guarded by bunkers left and right. Only very severely pushed or sliced drives will find the connecting stream far to the right.
From The Fairway The prime drive is either long and straight between the bunkers or short of the left hand bunker and left of centre of the fairway to enable a clear view of the green.
On The Green Shots played from right of centre of the fairway will be blind with the right hand greenside bunker also obscured by the steep mound to the right of the fairway beyond the drive target area.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway This short par 4 played over water to a wide fairway looks deceptively easy but an accurately placed drive is required, preferably short of the bunker, otherwise either a bunker recovery will be required or a difficult recovery from steeply sloping rough to the right.
On The Green From the drive target area, the approach is uphill to a wide green closely guarded by large bunkers to the left front and rear and by steeply sloping surrounds elsewhere.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The mid length, finishing par 3 hole for the nine is played over a gentle valley to a large green wide at the front and narrow to the rear.
From The Fairway Two bunkers guarding rear left and front right make close approaches to adjacent pin positions difficult.
On The Green The player should be careful not to overclub when the pin is located front left as the angled downslope from mid green creates a very speedy putt from anywhere beyond mid green.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee The wide fairway short of the angled fairway bunker to the left necks in near the far end of the bunker emphasising the sensible strategy of not going for maximum length from the tee.
From The Fairway The well bunkered slightly angled green offers a fair target for the mid-iron approach that follows a well placed drive.
On The Green
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee This is a much tougher drive than on the previous hole. OB is closer on the left whilst on the right the fairway edge and rough slopes steeply down to the lake.
From The Fairway The approach to the green is also challenging as the shot is generally with a long iron or rescue club to a target closely guarded by a bunker on the front left and the lake on the right side approach and beside the entire right side of the green.
On The Green
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee From the rear tee the tee shot is over water, then a very large guarding bunker with islands of tufted grass before the green is reached.
From The Fairway The back right pin position is particularly difficult to approach from this tee.
On The Green The tee shot from each of the other tees is less fearsome but from each a water carry is required.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot should be directed away from the left side O-B to a wide gently rising fairway which then falls from the drive target area across a rocky stream to a wide green guarded by a large bunker to the extreme right and a bunker and pond to the left.
From The Fairway A left placed pin is most difficult to approach due to the close proximity of the water hazard.
On The Green A conservative approach to the right half of the green however, leaves the golfer with a a very difficult approach putt to a left placed pin.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee Very long hitters have an opportunity to reach in two but that presents an extreme challenge primarily due to the lake on the right that, together with the entering stream borders the hole along its complete length.
From The Fairway Playing the hole in regulation fashion is strongly recommended. This is most successfully achieved by driving short of the first left of fairway bunker, playing an accurate second to centre fairway between the second and third fairway bunkers, then follow with a mid or short iron approach to the centre of the receptive green.
On The Green The left-hand green-side bunker and lake beside the right edge of the green make direct approach to the pin, other than if centrally placed, a risky business.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee This challenging par 3 is longer than it actually looks from the tee primarily due to the hidden ground between the centrally situated approach bunker and the front edge of the green.
From The Fairway Golfers must carefully consider the stated distances from the tee being played and the weather conditions to have the best chance of reaching the correct sector of the long tiered green.
On The Green The safest strategy is to play for the central part of the green where it is widest and unaffected by the deep bunkers that guard both sides of the front and rear sectors of the green.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee The intended strategy on the tee shot is to play to position in the wide area of fairway either short of the first fairway bunker or short of the second.
From The Fairway Very long hitters may take the risk of being bunkered left or in the trees to the right, to be left with a very short pitch to the putting surface if the shot execution is precise.
On The Green The green is raised more than one metre above general fairway level, bisected by a central transverse swale and is long and relatively narrow.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee This mid length par 4 hole requires an accurate tee shot preferably left of centre of the fairway with due regard to the bunkers guarding the left edge near the drive target area.
From The Fairway Large bunkers to the left and right front of the green angle in before the green to provide a very narrow approach and emphasise the preference for a well placed drive.
On The Green A short pin is tough due to the close proximity of these bunkers but not as tough as the rear right flag due to the steep downslope of the adjacent edge of the green.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee Water surrounds much of the green-site Any golfers attempting to reach the green in two must fly their second shot over water to at least the front edge of the green and at the same time maintain extreme accuracy.
From The Fairway Again, as for hole 14, the regulation par 5 approach is liable to be far more successful. The safest strategy is to play short of fairway bunkers on both the tee shot and second shot to be left with a mid-iron to the green.
On The Green The other option is to concentrate more on accuracy whilst risking catching the bunkers and have a short iron approach to the green from the widest part of the fairway short of the lake.
