Hole 1
Hole Name The First
From The Tee Not visually one of our strongest holes due to having to protect the houses with fencing. The hole is a dog leg with two bunkers defining the fairway, which has recently been extended.
From The Fairway The ideal tee shot is with a mid to long iron playing to the back of the fairway on to the higher ground which brings the green into view and leaves a relatively short iron into a raised target.
On The Green Allow plenty of club, you may be protected from the prevailing wind and short leaves you a difficult chip up the bank.
Hole 2
Hole Name The Furze
From The Tee A difficult par 4 into the prevailing wind, the fairway is guarded by a grassy bank to the left which obscures the green from the tee.
From The Fairway There is no trouble to the right but you make your second more difficult if you take the easy option.
On The Green A good drive leaves a short iron to a target green sloping front to back, again use plenty of club all the trouble is at the front.
Hole 3
Hole Name The Collins
From The Tee A cross ditch protects this hole from the tee so unless you’re brave then leave the driver in the bag.
From The Fairway
On The Green A well placed mid to long iron down the left side of the fairway leaves a short iron into a flat green.
Hole 4
Hole Name The Railway
From The Tee A fantastic par 3 nearly 200 yards from the white blocks protected by the railway to the left and usually playing into the prevailing wind.
From The Fairway
On The Green A two tier green makes for some tough pin placements which should be considered when making club selection.
Hole 5
Hole Name The Hill
From The Tee A beautiful par 5, by far our best in my opinion especially off the whites, the green can be seen far into the distance around the dog leg and up the hill.
From The Fairway The tee shot from the back tees is taunting, ditches and deep rough to the right and bushes and a dog leg to the left.
On The Green The driver is needed to have a chance of reaching but you need to find the fairway, the second shot is often played over the corner of the dog leg with bushes obscuring your view. There is a choice of laying up leaving a wedge.
Hole 6
Hole Name Bryn Lupus
From The Tee A nice par 4 and a chance to improve your card, carrying the ditch off the tee finds a good wide fairway.
From The Fairway There is a ridge some 120 yards from the front edge and a ditch that will catch a pulled drive.
On The Green The green is large and flat with plenty of room to run the ball in, there is a bunker protecting the left side of the green and the flat terrain can make clubbing a challenge.
Hole 7
Hole Name The Dyke
From The Tee The second of the three par 5’s and a good birdie opportunity. The green is hidden from the tee by a ridge some 200 yards out which can obscure the second shot.
From The Fairway Two bunkers on the right may catch a poor drive and the rough to the right of the fairway is punishing.
On The Green A good drive leaves you considering taking on the green but a right sided approach leaves a good chance of an up and down. The green slopes back to front which makes the shot attractive but can often leave a tricky putt.
Hole 8
Hole Name Vardre
From The Tee
From The Fairway A great par 4, probably our best and a typical links with a blind tee shot over sandy dunes running alongside the railway, the fairway sits in a bowl and a ridge also makes the second shot blind, the green (an addition to the hole some 25 years ago) slopes back to front and has a severe tier half way.
On The Green The green is also protected by a ridge short left which makes the approach very narrow, so plenty of club is vital but be aware from tee to green there are no easy shots.
Hole 9
Hole Name The Chasm
From The Tee A wonderful par 4 and our most beautiful. Turning for home the tee sits alongside the mouth of the Conwy estuary with the Isle of Anglesey and Puffin Island in the distance.
From The Fairway The tee is elevated and gives a fabulous view towards the green well protected with bunkers and the imposing Great Orme in the background.
On The Green The hole runs along the shoreline with the beach yards from the tee, if the wind is strong you may well need to aim out a to sea for your ball to find the fairway.
Hole 10
Hole Name The Ruins
From The Tee
From The Fairway The start to the back nine is a challenging, the 10th starts with a blind tee shot which requires positioning up the left side of the fairway with a 3 wood or rescue, a driver will bring the trouble on the right into play and the risk of losing your ball.
On The Green Three cross bunkers come into play on the second shot and obscure part of the green, depending on the wind the second shot can be anything from a long iron to a wedge. Everything plays in from the left with the green difficult to read.
Hole 11
Hole Name Castell
From The Tee Like the 10th this hole is a challenge, a long par 4 with a low index, the ideal drive is up the left side of a fairway which slopes to the right and is protected by an open ditch running the length of the hole.
From The Fairway
On The Green The prevailing wind causes many drives to be caught be the ditch or even drift over it making the 2nd shot a challenge, with the right hand trap that guards the large figure 8 green difficult to carry. Sand blow from the beach has raised this fairway be a couple of feet over the years.
Hole 12
Hole Name The Warren
From The Tee A short par 4 and a reprieve from the last two. This hole is protected by a number of bunkers and a green that unusually slopes front to back. Position your tee shot and a short iron can attack the pin, just hope the pin isn’t back left where the swale can catch you out.
From The Fairway
On The Green
Hole 13
Hole Name Hades
From The Tee A classic links par 3 that would stand up on any Championship course, apparently described by the great Henry Cotton as ‘A Little Gem’ but we are not sure if he was referring to this hole or the whole course! It usually clubs the same as the 4th and is again into the prevailing wind.
From The Fairway club selection is important off the raised tee there are the grassy banks to the left and the greenside trap to the right, no trouble long. The green is flat and easy to read.
On The Green
Hole 14
Hole Name The Long
From The Tee The third par five and it’s a great hole, the elevated tee shows off the North Wales Coastline, the Great Orme and of course our wonderful clubhouse framing the green.
From The Fairway The tee shot is a challenge, 180 carry to the open fairway with grassy banks to the right and thick rough left.
On The Green The second plays past the greenkeeper’s buildings leaving a short iron to the green which is protected by a high bunker to the left and two bunkers to the right.
Hole 15
Hole Name The Valley
From The Tee Not for the faint hearted, on a busy summer’s day you will be teeing off in front of dozens of fellow golf enthusiasts all eager to see if you fared any better than they did.
From The Fairway The 15th is again a great links dog leg with three bunkers defining the shape of the hole, a nice draw puts you in great shape to play through the valley to the sloping green protected by banks on both sides.
On The Green
Hole 16
Hole Name OL
From The Tee OL an LO are our two par 3’s which are probably our signature holes. This one is into the prevailing wind and can play from a wood to a wedge.
From The Fairway The flag can be seen but the green is hidden between two little humps that need to be carried to make the green.
On The Green The green is the smallest one on the course and everything falls into it, unless you get caught on the grassy banks that is.
Hole 17
Hole Name LO
From The Tee A fabulous par 3 only short but a great challenge, target golf at its best, over a valley to a raised green.
From The Fairway If you land front edge you risk running back down into the valley leaving a horrible blind pitch back up.
On The Green Club selection is vital and only a good shot will find the putting surface, take the time to look 360 degrees and take in all the beauty surrounding you.
Hole 18
Hole Name Paradise
From The Tee Two very different holes from the two tees, from the yellows it’s a fairly straight forward par 4, almost within range and a good drive leaves just a short chip to the narrow quirky green.
From The Fairway From the whites it’s a different story, a difficult drive with O-O-B to the left and the 15th fairway to the right, any balls to the right leaves a difficult carry over the right hand bunker.
