Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot on the first hole is a true "risk vs. reward". Be aggressive by taking driver over the tree or play it safe with an iron down the middle.
From The Fairway The number one green has four traditional pin placements. Although all are tough, the far left pin placement requires accurate distance control.
On The Green The approach to the number one green is guarded by a deep bunker in front of a tiny green. Short is bad, long is worse. The green has three different levels, all sloping from back to front.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot on the second hole appears to be straight forward. But this two-tiered green, bunkered on the right and protected by out-of-bounds on the left, has its challenges.
From The Fairway
On The Green The bunker short right is not the place to be, although long is worse. Any shot over the green creates a challenging chip to a green that falls away from back to front.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee Straight is a must off the #3 tee. Trees left and O-B right put a premium on an accurate drive.
From The Fairway If you miss the fairway, get the ball back in play, take your bogey and go on to the next hole.
On The Green Right is dead as you approach the #3 green. Aim at the middle of the green and bail out left if need be. Long presents a very quick downhill chip to a false front that will carry your ball down to a collection area in front of the green.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The 4th hole is a long par 4. Longer hitters that carry the hill need to favor the left side of the fairway, as balls tend to kick right.
From The Fairway The bowl shaped green breaks in four different directions. Most puts will travel both uphill and down hill. Getting a good read on the ball is a must when putting on #4.
On The Green The downhill approach to this large green is wide open. Be advised to take one less club when hitting into this hard-to-hold green because water lurks just beyond the fringe behind the hole.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee Club selection on #5 is critical. At 383 yards, it is not a short hole, but the severity of the dog-leg left will cause most long balls to go O-B. Long iron is the play, leaving a 175+ yard approach shot.
From The Fairway This long approach shot is made even more difficult with deep bunkers both left and right. Long is protected by O-B and creates a challenging chip to a severely sloping back to front two-tiered green.
On The Green When the pin is on the lower tier, many balls will feed down the slope back towards the hole. When on the upper tier, protect against going long. Putts up the hill are much easier than chips from behind the green.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee The 6th hole rewards straight tee shots. Left is dead because of two deep, narrow bunkers.
From The Fairway Aim for the middle of the green and bail out right if need be, but be careful of the tree on the right. Balls tend to come straight down into heavy rough.
On The Green Be careful reading puts on #6. The breaks tend to be subtle and sometimes go the other way.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole #7 can play much longer than its listed 467 yards. An all uphill drive is protected by 3 strategically placed bunkers. Keep it in the fairway for any shot at reaching the green in two.
From The Fairway Approaches to the green need to be pin high. A deep bunker in front and a bunker on the left force premium distance control. If you bail out, go right into a grass collection area that presents a not too difficult chip.
On The Green The green slopes back to front and anything long collects in the "Valley of Sin". Two putts from the valley are few and far between.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot on #8 is another "risk vs. reward" here at Owl Creek. At 292 yards, most long hitters can reach the green. The smart play is a long iron down the middle.
From The Fairway The approach to #8 green is guarded by bunkers both left and right. Long shots are greeted with a tough chip back to a green that slopes back to front. Short is much better than long.
On The Green The relatively flat contour of this green leads to very subtle breaks and confusing reads. Downhill putts are very quick. Leave the ball below the hole for your best chance at par.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee The tee shot on #9 is tight, especially when playing it from the back tees.
From The Fairway Balls hit down the right side tend to carry into the rough. Aim middle-left for the best result.
On The Green When attempting a long approach shot, it is a must to carry the "Church Pew" bunker. Also, avoid the left side for fear of a green side bunker and the "Valley of Sin". Smart players cheat to the right so that missed shots remain in the short grass.
