Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee A challenging Par 3 to begin your round. A solid long iron, hybrid or lofted wood is required to find the target which is guarded by three tough bunkers.
From The Fairway
On The Green The safest option is to find the front third of the green and take 2 putts.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s stroke index 1 for a reason.
From The Fairway
On The Green The hardest hole on the course requires a long tee-shot to give a chance of finding the green in two, however playing it with a three-shot strategy is a wise move. Avoid the bunker from the tee to give your strategy the best chance.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A flat fairway gives way to an uphill approach shot to a double green shared with the seventh hole. There’s plenty of room off the tee but try and stay far enough back to have a view of the flag.
On The Green The green slopes from back to front so an approach to the front third of the green is the safest play.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The best birdie chance of the opening four holes.
From The Fairway A good drive will leave a short pitch to the green however many locals opt for a long iron off the tee to the wider part of the fairway, fearful of out of bounds and trees tight left.
On The Green The green is well guarded by a steep faced bunker and the green features some challenging borrows.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee Accuracy off the tee is key.
From The Fairway The fairway slopes left to right with the best line up the left-hand side, which is also the most dangerous with O-B on the left.
On The Green A good tee-shot leaves a short iron approach to a generous green, which slopes left to right so keep left for tee shot and approach and use the contours to your advantage.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Standing on the tee offers a great view of the town with however a tough tee-shot awaits.
From The Fairway
On The Green A dog leg right to left with the Wrae Burn meandering menacingly just short of the green, so land it just over to let your ball feed down alternatively take enough club to reach the middle of the green. A well struck iron should hold the green as the approach will be from elevation.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Named after course design Harry Colt, the seventh is the shortest hole on the course but bunkers either side of
From The Fairway
On The Green the green will catch an errant tee shot. Anything short will fall to the left but a good short iron will leave a birdie opportunity.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee An inviting tee-shot with great views over Peebles.
From The Fairway The burn is well positioned to catch shorter hitters while the right-hand fairway bunker attracts tee-shots drifting right.
On The Green An accurate mid to short iron approach is required with bunkers either side, and the exposed green means putts can feel quicker on this hole.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee Plays generally downwind meaning this par five is often reachable in two shots.
From The Fairway Fairway bunkers right and left catch slightly off-line tee shots for shorter and longer hitters respectively and beware of the internal out-of-bounds down the right side.
On The Green The bunker short of the green can easily ruin the hole for you so avoid at all costs. Two good hits set up a great birdie chance for a green that returns you to the clubhouse.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee The 10th looks longer than it plays. The tees shot is uphill then the hole flattens out before approach the elevated green.
From The Fairway
On The Green A good tee shot avoiding the right-hand bunker and trees sets up a short iron to a green guarded by its elevation and a front left bunker. Middle of the green is the safest play, don’t be tempted to attack the pin especially if it’s on the right side of the green.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee A great birdie chance on offer here. A solid drive just right of the marker post is ideal. Any tee shot left of the pole makes the approach a lot tougher.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green is long and narrow with a bunker on the left. Approaching from the right-hand side opens the green offering the best line into the flag regardless of the pin position.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee One of the most picturesque holes on the course,
From The Fairway
On The Green the tee-shot requires a long or mid iron over the protective greenside bunker. The wind is usually against or across so one club more is generally needed.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee A risk and reward dog leg right-to-left par four.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green can be reached from the tee for longer hitters, but trouble exists all down the left. Right hand side is the best line, but the long, narrow and fast green dictates a good quality approach. Missing the green to the right leaves a near impossible shot so prevent that at all costs.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee A gradual rise to the highest point of the course, the fourteenth is a strong par four demanding a well hit tee shot.
From The Fairway A ridge across the fairway takes drives off to the right-hand side of the fairway, while the best angle of approach is the left-hand side of
On The Green the green. Good ball striking is required to achieve this hole in par or better.
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee Savour the views from the tee before stepping up to an inviting downhill tee shot.
From The Fairway
On The Green A good drive will run to the bottom of the slope leaving a short or mid iron into a narrow green which is one of the flattest on the course. The greens defence is its run-off to the front right. If you are too cute then you’ll leave yourself with an awkward up and down to save par.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee The final par three on the course is a real cracker.
From The Fairway
On The Green The elevated tee means judging which club to use can be difficult but catch the right bounce on the entry to the green and you’ll have a good chance of a birdie two. Short right is a good landing spot to allow for the kick onto the green alternatively fire it straight at the middle of the green and the ball should stop from the elevated tee shot.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee A strong par four needing two good hits to find the green.
From The Fairway The fairway is relatively generous with lots of room to miss on the left.
On The Green A well struck tee-shot leaves a relatively long approach to a shallow green. Walk off with a par and you’ll be smiling.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee The longest hole on the course to finish.
From The Fairway The line off the tee is the right-hand side of the fairway and a good second will leave a short pitch into a difficult green.
On The Green There are no greenside bunkers to contend with but the slope at the front is equally tricky. An up-and-down from short of this green is arguably the toughest up-and-down on the course.
