Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee It’s only fitting that the first hole calls attention to the first of several favourite and noteworthy features at RO-Blin Golf and Country Club.
From The Fairway The Purple Martin birdhouse rises (20) feet above the deep and marshy rough to the right of the tee box. The clubhouse and patio are a short putt to the left, meaning that you’ll sometimes have an audience for your tee shot.
On The Green (yours wouldn’t be the first ball to be planted in Baranowski’s field.) Too far to the right, and you’re going to be tangled in trees. It’s not that rare to see longer hitters land all the way past the right side tree line in the meadow off of the second tee box.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole two is a par-5 that dares you to reach the green in regulation.
From The Fairway The Lonely Pine stands guard in the meadow to the left of the whites and blues, while marsh frames the tee box to the right, all the way up to the reds. From the back and middle tees,
On The Green But beware the island of poplars to the right up top, as well as the menacing row of spruce trees nestled closely to O-B on the left. Chances are you’ll be playing a blind second shot from somewhere below the ridge and in front of Poplar Island, so try to stay to the middle or the right side of the fairway. If you go too far left over the ridge, your ball will most likely be flushed through the ro
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee What does our third hole have in common with famous ’70s band “America” and musical duo “Captain and Tenille”? Well, hole three is the course’s first dogleg (left) and it might have you singing “Muskrat Love” before you leave the teeing ground.
From The Fairway Long hitters will invariably attempt to cut the distance to the concealed green by carrying the trees on the left and landing safely inside the dogleg.
On The Green Others will hit an iron or hybrid straightaway to the corner. In either case, an errant tee shot too far left will put your ball out of bounds, and squarely into marsh inhabited by our resident muskrats. Even if you’re safe after the first shot, mind your distance on the approach. Though a gentle berm frames the back of the green, a ball that’s hit a hair too far will kick O-B.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The fourth hole is notorious, not so much for what’s on the fairway or the green, but for what isn’t. Pete’s Patch is a small grove of mountain ash just beyond the right-side tree line, well off the fairway.
From The Fairway It’s yet another storied and defining characteristic that only adds to the lore at RO-Blin Golf and Country Club. (The bad news is that) If your tee shot strays right, chances are you’re going to be walking through Pete’s Patch.
On The Green The good news is that the Pepsi Saloon is just a chip shot from the tee box, so while you look for your ball, your friends can refill their refreshments. As always, long hitters beware: although driving the green is possible when the wind is right, there is a pernicious little pot hole hazard on the left side, just over the ridge and (30) yards short of the forward-canted green. Pro tip: just hit
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee The prominent fifth is the first of two par-3’s, and is a striking hole for a number of its features.
From The Fairway Play begins on an elevated tee box overlooking a short stretch of fairway which descends the ridge you played coming up number two. The sprawling green at the bottom of the fairway belies the notion that landing your tee shot here somehow makes a birdie or even a par automatic.
On The Green Undulating lines make your putt from anywhere on the green a test of skill and nerve. Half way between the tee box and the green, near the top of the ridge, you will notice the White Rock. It’s one of the reasons we encourage every golfer to keep a permanent marker in the bag – because if your ball hits it, local etiquette insists that you sign the rock!
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole six is a par-4, and in some ways, mirrors the second hole.
From The Fairway From the tee box, you’re staring at the same ridge down fairway that cuts across holes two, five, and seven. As on two, you will be in a much better position for your approach if you get to the top – or near the top – with your driver.
On The Green This time look for our other landmark birdhouse. Even if you haven’t reached the top of the ridge, the birdhouse behind the green gives you a good target line. The green itself is framed nicely by a berm on three sides, which looks pretty but can play ugly if you have to flop over it.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee The par-4 seventh is a long dogleg left that many would argue is RO-Blin Golf and Country Club’s toughest hole.
From The Fairway There is no question that it makes par elusive. In fact, on most days, it feels like making birdie if you do happen to get up and down in four. Back, middle, and forward tees are on the same extended tee box, which offers no reprieve in trying to land a safe ball. Two different communications towers on the horizon provide good target lines,
On The Green more distant tower further left. If you hit that line and carry (250) yards, you’ll land around the inside of the dogleg where the fairway opens up considerably, giving you a chance to birdie. But that’s a big “if”! Poplars crowd the inside line from the tee box all the way down to the dogleg itself, where you’ll find rough and even more poplars and spruce scattered around at the bottom of the rid
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee If seven is the toughest, number eight is by far the most picturesque hole you’ll find at RO-Blin Golf and Country Club.
From The Fairway It’s where our signature pond comes into full view, and surrounds most of the teeing ground and green. A narrow causeway connects the two, but most of what you see as you stand on the tee box looking toward the flag….is water.
On The Green The tale goes that as the two stepped onto the tee box to face their opponents for more click-filled shenanigans near the end of their match, Weefy proceeded to put one ball after another into the water. Each time he did, Westy could be heard galvanizing his partner’s will with the enduring phrase “Nice shot, cack!!” It is said that their time spent on the tee box that evening was measured not in
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number nine has become the nemesis of many a player. It’s the third of three doglegs at RO-Blin Golf and Country Club, all of which exact a heavy toll when not managed well. This hole presents a slight twist, however, as the dogleg bends right.
From The Fairway In order to get around it, one may try to hit across the pond, providing the wind is right – and assuming that you can carry at least (260) yards. If so, chances are good that you’ll land near the green and maybe even have a putt for eagle. But mere mortals must attempt to hit straight down a rather narrow looking fairway. If driven far enough, the ball will reach the relative safety of the dogleg
On The Green while the water hazard follows the inside of the hole almost to the green. Stories abound of golfers having the round of their life as they step onto the last tee, only to have their Titanic dreams of greatness sink before making it all the way across the pond. But if you do manage to par or even birdie nine, please accept our heartiest congratulations! It’s an impressive achievement that has earn
