Hole 1
Hole Name Threshold
From The Tee A good Par 4 to start the round.
From The Fairway The left-to-right sloping fairway and the large pine trees about 200 metres on the right will punish any slice,
On The Green while large poplars followed by stumps-littered light rough on the hill on the left, make accuracy off the tee vital. The green is slightly elevated with a drop off on the right. Playing hints: Start your tee shot just left of centre. Trust your yardage for the second shot and don't be tempted to go pin-hunting when the flag is on the right side of the green.
Hole 2
Hole Name Grieson's Drop
From The Tee A challenging par 3 with a high elevated tee and multi-tiered green.
From The Fairway There is hazard and thick rough on the left, trees to the right of the green and garden behind.
On The Green Playing hints: This hole plays deceptively long so club selection is important. Aim for the centre of the two-tiered green and don't be too greedy as a chip from behind the green could leave you to chip again from the front.
Hole 3
Hole Name Metropolitan
From The Tee A straight Par 4 with the flag easily visible from the tee.
From The Fairway There's generous space on the right for the tee shot, but will result in a more challenging approach.
On The Green There is space to the left of the green but quite a drop-off into gardens and heavy rough to the right. Playing hints: Aim for the centre of the fairway and keep the ball straight. Again the approach should be for the centre of the green but don't stray right, as there is anything straying there is invariably punished.
Hole 4
Hole Name Webber's Upset
From The Tee Another challenging Par 3 with the prevailing head
From The Fairway wind making it play longer than it appears. The green is half a club length uphill from the tee and
On The Green slopes down decidedly from back to front, making downhill putting quite a challenge. Playing hints: Short is much better than long - aim to have an uphill putt.
Hole 5
Hole Name Howsie's Highway
From The Tee A par 5 with a slight dogleg right.
From The Fairway The fairway tends to kick right until Albie's Tree (some 180M from the tee on the right) and flattens thereafter until reaching a steep downward hill at about 330M from where the generous green becomes visible.
On The Green The back-to-front sloping green presents a challenge depending on the pin placement. Playing hints: Aim your tee shot for the centre of the fairway and you'll find your ball nicely on the left. If you haven't reached the flat part of the fairway, hit your second shot about 150 metres towards the large Norfolk Pine in the distance and you'll find yourself with a comfortable pitch from the top of th
Hole 6
Hole Name Westward Ho
From The Tee A slight dogleg left with a blind tee shot.
From The Fairway the large gO-Bbler trees on the left present a challenge to anyone straying there. From the fairway there is a straight approach to the green,
On The Green which can become quite fast in dry summer times. Playing hints: Aim your tee shot straight down the middle and you won't go much wrong. Once on the fairway the hole should not hold any terrors for the straight hitter.
Hole 7
Hole Name Mairetahi Line
From The Tee A mostly straight par 4
From The Fairway requiring a blind tee shot over a rise onto a wide fairway. Large pine trees both left and right of the fairway may present prO-Blems to anyone straying too far.
On The Green The deep green is wedged between small hills but holds few tricks. Playing hints: A nice straight tee shot just left of the bank on your right will leave you in the middle of the flat fairway. From there a mid-iron onto the green should do the jO-B.
Hole 8
Hole Name McMurdo Length
From The Tee The number one stroke hole!
From The Fairway The long fairway is marked by out-of-bounds hedging on the left and trees and some hazard area on the right. and all you need to do is get to it. Aim your approach to the left side of the green to avoid rolling off on the right.
On The Green The green slopes left to right and can be quite fast when dry, making the steep drop on the right of the green a real threat. Playing hints: From the tee aim just right of the treed bank on the left of the fairway. Once over the rise you'll see the green and all you need to do is get to it. Aim your approach to the left side of the green to avoid rolling off on the right.
Hole 9
Hole Name Lakeside
From The Tee The first of our two signature holes.
From The Fairway From the elevated tee the fairway slopes downward onto a flat area in front of the green. Bunkers and pine trees on the right challenge the big hitters from the tee.
On The Green The left side brings the lake into play for the second shot. The green has significant drop-off on both sides making accuracy with the approach essential. Playing hints: From the tee, aim just left of the fairway bunkers to leave yourself a shot straight down the green. Big hitters can take the bunkers on if game enough. Aim your approach for the centre of the green; right is not good but preferab
Hole 10
Hole Name Eagles Nest
From The Tee Our second signature hole. Another challenging par 3 requiring a tee shot
From The Fairway over the water onto the green protected by bunkers both left and right. Behind the green is a sizable drop-off while left of the green is a steep bank.
On The Green Playing hints: Trust your yardage and aim for the centre of the green. A miss on the left will often mean hitting your second shot up a steep hill from the 11th fairway from where the flag may not be visible.
Hole 11
Hole Name Lewis Pass
From The Tee A challenging par 4 with plenty of trouble
From The Fairway to be found on both sides of the generous fairway, which leads to a significant rise to be negotiated to the elevated green.
On The Green There is minimal room to the left of the green where there is a steep drop-off into an unplayable hazard. Playing hints: A good drive down the middle will result in a short-ish iron to this very elevated green. Shorter drivers may consider just aiming their second shot to the top of the hill for a comfortable pitch onto the flat green. Avoid the left side in your approach, as the steep hill will o
Hole 12
Hole Name Gibson's Gallop
From The Tee The first of three holes making up "birdie alley".
From The Fairway A straight forward par 4 with a gradual rise to the green. The hill to the left of the green can be a real assist during summer months but the drop off to the right can pose prO-Blems.
On The Green Playing hints: Long hitters - GO FOR IT! The rest of us mortals should aim for the top of the rise to leave a comfortable iron to the middle of the green. Don't be tempted if the flag is on the right, which would bring the drop-off into play - although this is not impossible to recover from.
Hole 13
Hole Name Temptation
From The Tee Temptation! - The name says it all.
From The Fairway A short dogleg left to tempt the big hitters to take on the corner - either over the top or shape it around- to a reachable green
On The Green . The left side is marked by out-of-bounds and large trees on the right make a lay-up a sensible choice. Behind the green is also out-of-bounds making over-hitting particularly punishing. The green slopes downwards from back to front. Playing hints: Big hitters can chance their arm at the green, but for more "normal" golfers, perhaps a medium iron to the centre of the fairway followed by a short p
Hole 14
Hole Name Kaipara Views
From The Tee Another short par 4 with stunning views over the Kaipara Harbour.
From The Fairway A slight dogleg right with a large tree blocking access to the pin from that side. Best access to the green is from the left side, but be wary of the fairway bunkers.
On The Green The left side of the green has a drop-off towards the boundary fence. Playing hints: Another opportunity for big-hitters, who can have a go over the slope on the right side of the fairway. Otherwise, aim your tee shot just right of the edge of the fairway bunkers for an open approach to the green. The green is mostly flat but half a club further than it looks. Don't be long or you'll bring the gre
Hole 15
Hole Name Tomkin's Track
From The Tee A more challenging par 4 dogleg
From The Fairway left with a dipping fairway leading up to an elevated green. The green slopes dramatically downwards from back to front, making an uphill put highly preferable.
On The Green Playing hints: Hit your tee shot down the left side of this fairway, but don't get caught behind the trees. The elevation of the green means its half a club further than it looks and anything short will run back down on the fairway.
Hole 16
Hole Name Landsend
From The Tee The number two stroke hole requiring a tee shot over the rise before the green becomes visible.
From The Fairway The right side of the spacious fairway is bordered by an out-of-bounds area that will punish a right-hander's slice off the tee.
On The Green The green is mostly flat but its sand base does make for a fast putt. Playing hints: If you're brave enough go for the right edge of the fairway, which will leave a short-ish iron into the green. Average hitters should aim for the middle of the fairway, but will be faced with a longer approach shot.
Hole 17
Hole Name Eccles Highway
From The Tee A short "risk and reward" par 5 that present's a clear birdie opportunity for the big hitters.
From The Fairway Although the 18th stroke hole, there is plenty of trouble either side of the fairway.
On The Green The large elevated green slopes sharply from back to front making an uphill put essential. Playing hints: Bigger hitters aim your tee shot just left of the poplar trees to leave a mid iron onto the elevated green. Others, just aim for the big spaces in front of the tee and play a second shot onto the flat area in front of the green and trust your short-game.
Hole 18
Hole Name Completion
From The Tee A kindly hole to finish your round. Hit your tee shot just left of centre for the best approach to the elevated green.
From The Fairway
On The Green The green again slopes downwards from back to front making a forward pin placement particularly challenging. If you miss your approach than try to miss on the right side -- it's closer to the Clubhouse bar!!!
