Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee Although only a short par 4, Mendip's opening hole can prove tricky presenting a sharply uphill tee shot with trees right, and out of bounds left. Miss the big tree on the right and a short iron pitch to a small two tiered green is all that's left. Reachable by the big hitters, the green is well protected by bunkers right and left.

Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway Slightly less of an uphill drive and not as tight as the 1st, this hole plays longer than its yardage. Longer hitters will negotiate the first bank and bunker on either side of the fairway but many a seemingly good drive finds the next bunker on the right, whilst a hook will be tree bound. Care must be taken with the club for the approach as the strength of wind cannot be felt on a fairway shelter

Hole Name
From The Tee Usually played into the prevailing wind, this is a challenging tee shot, a slice will find the trees; a hook the Wells road. The Approach to a smallish green which slopes from front to back can either be played short and to run, or with a well struck shot all the way to the green. Either way, in summer, many players find themselves with a tricky pitch up the bank at the back of the green.

Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway The first of Mendip's two par 5s, this hole requires a well struck tee shot to find the fairway. Slightly downhill, a drive past the marker puts the green within reach in two. The long narrow green can be approached by running the ball in from the right but if misjudged, this can leave a difficult pitch or chip. The left side of the green has two good bunkers set into the bank and any shot miss

Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee A short dogleg right provides the big hitters a chance to reach the green, providing their shot is long enough and misses the strategically placed gorse bushes. The safer route is a first shot down the fairway followed by an iron uphill to the green. Once there however, your problems are not yet over. With a large tier across the width of the green, any putt that has to come up to the top level

Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway This is a difficult fairway to hit as the ground slopes sharply from left to right; too far left and over the hedge is OOB, too far right and the ball runs away with trees and a bank as obstacles. The second shot, with the ball below your feet, to a narrow green bunkered right and left is always a challenge. Also on the left, an ancient grassy bank is ready to grab a pulled second shot.

Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway Although quite a generous driving area, there is trouble with trees right and left of the fairway. A well hit tee shot is needed to hit the green in two; slightly left of centre opens up the green which is guarded on the right by a large tree. Miss the green on the left and a larger bunker awaits. The green is long and narrow so long or short of the pin can leave tricky distance putts with inte

Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee Not a long par 3, but with another fairly long green and the vagaries of the wind, clubbing can be difficult. The green rises slightly from front to back so not enough club tends to stay at the front. Too much club and you are over the back with a delicate shot up the small bank. Again, bunkers right and left collect the pushed or pulled iron.

Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway Although 530 yards, the hole is all downhill and plays much shorter but a good drive to a undulating fairway is needed to get close to the green in two. The approach to another long narrow green can be run in or flown all the way. In either case, accuracy is paramount as bunkers guard both sides of the green. Over the back the land falls away leaving a tricky pitch.

Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway This hole plays as long as 9 plays short. 450 yards uphill, often into the wind, requires two well struck shots to get home. Whilst the fairway is wide, errant shots can find the trees on the right or deep rough on the left. Another very long narrow green, fully 48 yards long, means distance control with your long iron or fairway wood is critical. Get it wrong and monster putts are left. There are

Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee
From The Fairway A narrow drive with a tree lined fairway that slopes again from left to right. Three bunkers on the right will catch the mishit slice; left and the trees can block out the second shot. A good drive will travel through the "gap", leaving only a short second iron although from a hanging lie, hitting the green is not guaranteed. A large bunker collects a pushed iron, whilst miss on the left and a

Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee Not a long par 3, but uphill to a green with a large tier means this hole plays longer. A middle iron to a front pin can become a long iron to a pin on the top tier, especially when played into the wind. Bunkers guard the front left and right with trees and rough to fight if you miss left or right. A player finding the wrong level will find two putting an exacting challenge.

From The Tee A slight dogleg right, big hitters can go for the green if the wind is favourable. Two fairway bunkers down the right catch the pushed tee shot whilst a slice will place you in the fir trees. Hole Name
From The Tee Another downhill hole, a good drive over the marker post leaves only a middle to short iron approach. However, trouble for the mishit tee shot right and left gives the hole its difficulty. A slice can go in or over the hedge and for the hook, OOB, bunker, hedge and trees all await. About 80 yards from the green is a line of trees running across the line of play. On the fairway there is a nice

From The Fairway A truly picturesque par 4, the drive must be accurate to find the fairway which starts to slope upwards right about driving distance. A mishit left may well join the ducks in the lake or the trees beyond whilst to the right, bunkers and more trees await. The approach to the green, like most at Mendip from probably an uneven lie, has to be accurate and well struck to find the raised green which slo

From The Fairway A lovely driving hole, slightly downhill, with the right hand side to be favoured as the ground runs right to left. Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee A great finishing hole, played slightly uphill and into the prevailing wind. Although no bunkers are on the hole, the large swales to the left of the green are to be avoided and the smart play is to aim at the right edge of the green allowing the slope to move the ball to the centre.
