Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee our play off the tee should be biased toward the right side of the fairway as it slopes from right to left.
From The Fairway A good drive will put you on either side of the cart path that crosses the fairway in the distance and should leave a 130-150 yard second shot to the hidden green.
On The Green The opening hole at Waukewan offers the golfer a beautiful view of the Sandwich Mountain Range in the distance and you should see from here that the golf course is neatly maintained.
Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee As you stand at your tee, you will not see the green although it is straight away. Your play off the tee should be biased toward the left side of the fairway as the landing area slopes moderately from left to right and downhill.
From The Fairway The second hole tee boxes are located about 75 yards off to the right side of the first green.
On The Green A good drive will put you within 100 yards or so where the approach to the green will now be visible. Very, very long hitters can actually reach this green off the tee which makes this hole one of the many risk/reward holes on the course.
Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number three is pretty straight forward and is the first of two par threes on the front nine. As you stand at your tee, you may notice that you cannot see the front of the green
From The Fairway This green slopes more aggressively from front to back than the two holes before it. You do not want to come up too short off the tee as there is a lip in front of the green that will collect your ball short of the green, leaving a very tricky shot to the pin.
On The Green Miss left or right and you will have a shot to the green from moderate rough. There is not much room to miss long on this hole so be aware of your club selection on the tee.
Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee The fourth hole is challenging in that it is tightly contained by tree lines on both sides and is the second of three risk/reward holes on the front nine for forward tee players, but not so much for players teeing up from the tips.
From The Fairway As you look down the fairway, you will sight a bunker that lies about 40 yards from the front of the green.
On The Green Your play off the tee should be to put your drive in front of this bunker, setting up for a “simple” second shot to the green.
Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee From the white tees you have more or less a straightaway shot where you can hit the middle of the fairway, but you do not really have a straight enough line to the green unless you are able to draw your ball slightly.
From The Fairway The fifth hole is also challenging in that it is the last of three risk/reward holes on the front nine. As you look down the fairway, you will see that this hole is a 90 degree dogleg left.
On The Green From the blue and black tees, your play off the tee should be to use a lofted club and put ball straight away on the rise and in the fairway, setting up for a “simple” 100-130 yard second shot to the green.
Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole Number six is the first of two par fives on the front nine. Standing on the tee box everything looks serene, right? Wrong.
From The Fairway Although there seems to be a ton of landing area out there, many golfers pull out the big gun and put their ball in the water left, the woods right, or even blast it through the fairway into the hazard where there is little chance for recovery.
On The Green It is too much fun to try to go long here, but the smarter play is to club down a little and try to land the ball two thirds of the way left center. Landing too far right will make this hole long, long, long.
Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number seven is pretty straight forward. As you stand at your tee, you may notice that you cannot see the front of the green.
From The Fairway Missing right is a little more difficult than missing left or long as you may have a tough time getting out of or over the bunker and stopping your ball depending on pin placement.
On The Green This green slopes from back to front and is receptive. You will have to fly your ball to the green as it is well protected front and sides by bunkers.
Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee As you get to the eighth tee box, now is a good time to contact the snackbar at 603-279-6661 to put in a sandwich order if you are getting hungry and want to grab something quick and satisfying at the turn.
From The Fairway Hole Number eight is the second of two par fives on the front nine and a great hole to let the driver shaft out a little. Although landing left of the cart path, or right of the right side fairway bunker can pose issues, you have room to let it go.
On The Green Don’t be too worried about landing in one of the fairway bunkers, unless you end up at the front edge of them, as they are reasonably flat and usually firm enough to play a fairway wood or hybrid out of and get distance.
Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole Number nine is a great finishing hole for the front nine and is the lowest handicap hole on the front. It is a slight dogleg right with a pond at the elbow. Your play off the tee should be biased toward the left side of the fairway as it slopes from left to right, and being too far right may O-Bstruct your shot to the green.
From The Fairway You should be able to let the shaft out to your driver on this hole as well but big hitters use caution as in dry times you will be able to reach that pond out there.
On The Green A good drive will put you at the corner, or a little beyond, the dogleg and should leave a 140-160 yard second shot to the green.
Hole 10
Hole Name
From The Tee This hole is one of three risk/reward holes on the back nine and some tough guys try to go for this green off the tee. It can be done, but it will have to be an exceptional tee shot to end up in play. Your play off the tee should be to land the ball as close to the front of the pond as you dare.
From The Fairway Landing your ball right will just increase the distance of your second shot up to an additional 100 yards. A good shot off the tee will leave you 60-80 yards to the green.
On The Green Hole Number ten is a tricky starting hole for the back nine. As you stand on the tee box, you will notice that it is a dogleg left and you may notice that there is a pond about three quarters of the way to the green.
Hole 11
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number eleven is pretty straight foward and a fairly long par three for Waukewan. As you stand at your tee, take note of the wind speed and direction.
From The Fairway You may notice it is blowing straight in your face which will be cause to choose a longer club than usual. This green runs away from the front and flattens out a bit toward the back.
On The Green As you are midway to the green, it is sometimes helpful to sight the pin placement for the thirteenth green as it is difficult to see when you are approaching that green from below.
Hole 12
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole Number twelve is a straight away par four and the second of three risk/reward holes on the back nine. As you stand on the tee box, you may notice this green is surrounded by bunkers and it is not all that far away. Your play off the tee should be to put your ball in front of the front bunker then chip onto the green for an easy birdy opportunity but… put that shorter club back in the bag and
From The Fairway Anything left of the fairway starts to flirt with tree limbs and woods lines so guard against that by trying to run down the center and right side of the fairway.
On The Green Your second shot to the green will have to be a little guarded due to the number of bunkers surrounding it.
Hole 13
Hole Name
From The Tee Ah yes, hole 13, the number one stroke hole. Everything is going great with your round right? Let’s see how we are after finishing up this hole.
From The Fairway Looks easy. Straight out, straight up the hill to the green. Well, it usually isn’t. You have to get off the tee well here. Too far left and your second shot is restricted, or worse yet you found the hazard. Too far right and you may end up in a retention pond between the 13th and 14 fairways.
On The Green Too long and you are in a hazard. Just right and your all smiles as you think about your second shot. Pay attention to the course conditions as in wet times there will be standing water in places and soft conditions.
Hole 14
Hole Name
From The Tee Be careful of the hazard line down the left though and there is a retention pond after the woods line on the right that may be sighted from the forward tee boxes and is usually in play for most golfers.
From The Fairway Hole number fourteen is a beautiful golf hole with a moderate elevation change from tee to green. Standing on the tee box all seems good, doesn’t it? It is good if you can land your drive left center and let it trickle right as the fairway slopes from left to right.
On The Green Playing from the tips here is a bit more challenging due to the additional distance. Most golfers will end up inside of 100 yards for their approach shot to the green
Hole 15
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number fifteen is the first of two par fives on the back nine. As you stand on the tee box, you cannot see your landing area, but it looks wide open doesn’t it.
From The Fairway Your play off the tee is will be to land your shot on the right side of the fairway as it does slope right to left a bit.
On The Green Well it is, but there are hazard lines that run the length of the hole on either side and there is a pond in the distance that long hitters may reach.
Hole 16
Hole Name
From The Tee Looking toward the green from your tee box you will note that it is fairly open, but an out of bounds line runs up the right side just beyond the cart path, and the rough is very heavy left of the green which could make things difficult for your next shot.
From The Fairway Hole number sixteen is pretty straight forward and a longer par three than hole number 11 as it is uphill all the way. We call it the shortest par four in the lakes region due to the fact that if you come away from this one with a bogey or better, you have dodged a bullet.
On The Green . This green slopes gently from back to front and depending on the pin placement, you will have to guard against running off the green when chipping on or putting from above the pin.
Hole 17
Hole Name
From The Tee Hole number seventeen is the last par five on the back nine. As you stand on the tee box, you will notice that the landing area slopes moderately from right to left so it is important to bias your tee shot to the high side but… be careful as the roadway on the right is out of bounds.
From The Fairway We always say that out of bounds is to the right here, and the entire golf course is to the left, so you decide how close you want to land to the right side of the fairway. If you do land center to left, chances are you will be off the fairway in the left rough but that usually isn’t too bad. As you are proceeding down the fairway, you will notice a stone well that is no longer in service.
On The Green Many years ago, golfers would stop here and draw a quick cup of water before hitting their second shot. Unfortunately, with laws and government oversight what it is today, this well had to be taken out of service.
Hole 18
Hole Name
From The Tee The eighteenth hole is the last of the risk reward holes on the back nine. You cannot see the green from your tee box as the hole rises up a steep hill then flattens out to the green that is guarded by a water hazard in front. There is a mirror mounted on a pole behind the tee boxes to help sight whether there are golfers on the green.
From The Fairway If you are going for the green you had better make sure that you have the distance. Missing short or a little left and your ball will find the hazard.
On The Green If you stand in the vicinity of the cart path as it turns from gravel to asphalt you will be able to see the green in the mirror.
