Western Gailes Golf Club Golf Course Map /Western Gailes Golf Club Golf Holes Map Western Gailes Golf Club Golf Course Review in Irvine, SL in KA11 5AE
From The Tee The longer you go off the tee, the narrower the hole. Staying left of centre will avoid a blind second to a green that slopes from front to back, and help avoid a vicious bunker front right.
From The Tee The fairway looks level, but it gathers right towards the bunkers. The ideal line is over the right edge of the hump on the left, leaving an open shot to a generous green
From The Tee The only links par 5 in the world that is all carry on the direct line! There is less room right than you think off the tee.
From The Fairway The second demands precision accuracy, whether you lay up on a line just right of the 'barber's pole' which marks the back right of the green, or attempt to fly it all the way
From The Tee One of the great links par 3s, this hole demands the straightest of tee shots with anything long and left dead. Miss the green anywhere else and a 4 remains most likely.
From The Tee The ideal line off the tee is just to the right of the red marker cross in the distance. Anything left risks a fairway bunker, while slipping a little right still leaves a decent approach
From The Fairway Carry it all the way to avoid the burn.
On The Green The green is generous and slopes steeply back to front.
From The Tee Its possible to run out of fairway off the tee, so pick your club carefully. There is a bit more space down the right than you think, but the left side leaves an easier approach to a long, narrow green that is guarded by 4 deep bunkers.
From The Tee Dont go right! If necessary give up length to hit the fairway to leave a delicate shot to a well contoured green that is again guarded by a burn.
From The Fairway Beware, go too far past the hole and you face a fast putt back towards the burn.
From The Tee The ideal line off the tee is on the railway signal box in the far distance. The fairway is angled left to right, so pay heed to pick the right line for the carry off the tee.
From The Fairway The approach shot will kick left if landed too short.
From The Tee Youve just completed 9 holes in the other direction and should now be playing with the prevailing wind. But FOCUS, this is a difficult tee shot! Staying left of centre is the easier tee shot.
From The Fairway But this leaves a more difficult second. The third is always tricky into a long narrow green.
From The Tee You must miss the fairway bunkers at all costs. There is dead ground over the burn to the front of the green, but it can still be a long hit to carry, so weigh your options carefully.
From The Tee The railway right is again a challenge off the tee, but the fairway bunker virtually guarantees a double. The ideal line is on the left edge of the clubhouse.
From The Fairway The approach always plays long so take plenty of club. Short right is dead!
