Hole 1
Hole Name
From The Tee The opening doesn’t require a monumental drive; rather, success depends on accuracy into the rolling green, illustrative that a deft short game is essential on the West. The modest length shouldn’t be confused with No. 1 being an easy start.
From The Fairway It appears kind of benign for a first hole, but you have to hit a good tee shot. You’ll be left with a short iron or wedge over our own Swilcan Burn, which is tough at the first. We always talk about the fact that if this were the 12th or 13th hole on the West it would seem easy, but that’s not really the case at the beginning of the round.

Hole 2
Hole Name
From The Tee Turning gently right from the tee, No. 2 demands an uphill mid- or long iron to its expansive, terraced green. Landing the blind approach on the right level is key to any chance for birdie. Most regard the second as one of the toughest holes among the 18.
From The Fairway "I really like this hole. It’s a very demanding par-4. Keep your drive in the left or center of the fairway, but short of the bunker. If you’re right you will be totally blocked out. Even with a perfect drive you can’t see the bottom of the flag for your approach - and if you go in the bunkers short and right, good luck. The green is extremely difficult to putt.

Hole 3
Hole Name
From The Tee A seemingly gracious fairway gets pinched by mounds left and bunkers right on the third. The flatter rear portion of the green provides opportunity to roll in a lengthy putt, while the front half heaves and dips, multiplying the importance of the approach shot.
From The Fairway You’ll really need to get this tee shot to the correct spot in the fairway - center or left, because right and you’re dead. If you have to recover from there though, creativity helps. It will require a great punch shot running low onto the green. With the perfect tee shot you’ll attack the hole, but the green has lots of slope, especially on the left side - we call that the 'Talladega High Bank'

Hole 4
Hole Name
From The Tee Though it’s the longest hole on the front, length isn’t the challenge on the fourth. The creek slicing strategically across the landing area makes reaching in two a daunting task, while a long, angled green deceptively kicks longer approaches to the back - or beyond.
From The Fairway A very straightforward par-5. Drive it a little left of center, then lay up to around 80 yards, hit a good wedge, and make an easy birdie. If you reach the green in two, you’ll probably make par instead. Also, the farther left you see the flagstick the worse your score is likely to be. A back-left flag is almost impossible.

Hole 5
Hole Name
From The Tee When the first par-3 stretches to 200 yards or more, difficulty holding the slender green compounds the chance of losing a stroke. Bunkers protect any hole location on the right side and absorb anything long left.
From The Fairway Our longest and most demanding par-3. The shallow green requires a precise long iron or hybrid into it. The big bunker right catches a lot of shots, but is a surprisingly easy play compared to the back bunker on the left. Three is always a good score here. If you make birdie, you stole it

Hole 6
Hole Name
From The Tee On the scorecard the sixth seems benign, but big drives are rewarded only by cresting a plateau, which leaves a more difficult approach than drives short of the crest. A number of useful hole locations give par additional protection.
From The Fairway Six is the ruin of many a good round. For me, it’s the hardest tee shot to get into play. From the back tee, depending on the wind, I hit 5-wood, 3-wood, or driver and try to control a fade into the fairway. Then, you must get on the green or you’re toast. If you do miss, though, you’re better off in the deep, right bunker than letting the approach come back down the hill into the fairway. A hole-

Hole 7
Hole Name
From The Tee It takes reaching the edge of a steep descent in the fairway to reveal the true beauty on the seventh. From there, mature hardwoods, a low bunker, and the rock walled creek frame the green, as well as help make this among the most challenging par-4s on the course.
From The Fairway Keep your tee shot right. A large, deep bunker frames the fairway left and is a one-shot penalty. You don’t want to be there. Your second shot plays a club downhill to a green that is guarded by the stream left. A front-left hole location is treacherous. Birdies will be rare.

Hole 8
Hole Name
From The Tee At a glance, a front hole location on the par-3 eighth appears inviting, but the penalty for missing this tiny segment of green is severe. At deeper hole locations the landing area runs away to the back, requiring a high, soft tee shot.
From The Fairway The hole location can turn this into a difficult hole. The tee shot is easy, but don’t get too far right, or you end up in a big grass hole. The green is unbelievably fast going from the left to the right side, or toward the back.

Hole 9
Hole Name
From The Tee Finishing the front side, the ninth hole allows plenty of room to drive and bonus length for reaching a downslope about 100 yards from the green. Scoring opportunities emerge in short approaches that elude run-off areas on each side and bunkers short, right and long.
From The Fairway "A short par-4 that can spark a comeback, but a misplaced wedge or short iron can also deflate momentum. If the hole is front right hit the approach to the middle at least 15 feet left of the flagstick. And then don’t putt it off the green
